Anatomie

Manticores are a race of demons that are a mixture of lion, bat and scorpion. The body of the Manticore is similar to that of a lion, strong and muscular. Its head is majestically framed by a mane of magnificent fur. The neck is short and powerful, supporting the massive skull. Their legs are robust and end in strong paws with sharp claws that are perfect for gripping and tearing. The torso is muscular and proportional to the rest of the Manticore's physique. The Manticore's powerful bat wings are huge and extend from the shoulders of the lion's body. The wings are thin-skinned, yet resilient, and allow the creature to perform various flying manoeuvres. The Manticore's scorpion tail is long and ends in a dangerous stinger. A poisonous secretion is produced in the tail, which the manticores can use in battle to paralyse and immobilise their opponents.

Genetik und Vermehrung

Like all demon races, the Manticores must collect life energy to reproduce. They gain this life energy from the blood of slain enemies. Once they have stored a certain amount of life energy, they can use the Incubarium to transfer it to their breeding grounds, where new Manticores then grow.

Wachstumsrate & -stadien

Manticores can only grow and gain power through the Incubarium. During the initiation phase of the Incubarium, they absorb part of the transferred life energy, which boosts their growth.

Ökologie und Lebensräume

Manticores favour elevated and windy places where they settle and build their nests. These can be the towers and tops of buildings, but also the summits and plateaus of mountains and hills. Within the Black Lands, they are therefore primarily found in the uppermost levels of citadels, where they have special jump ramps and entry lanes. Some Manticores can also be found in the surrounding mountain ranges.

Ernährung und Gewohnheiten

They mainly hunt to gain the life energy they need. They prefer to hunt from elevated positions from where they have a good overview of their territory. They undertake long and extended forays through the surrounding areas in search of prey. With their keen eyes, they can spot potential targets at great distances. As soon as they decide to attack their prey, they swoop down at great speed and use their sharp claws and teeth to overpower it, paralysing it with their scorpion sting and immobilising it. They then eat their victims alive or drag them into their nests. Their prey is fully conscious during this process.

Behaviour

Manticores are driven solely by their animal instincts, which leads them to be territorial, aggressive and domineering towards other demon races and other Manticores. Fights often occur within their own species as they serve to demonstrate their strength and claim territory. Despite their savage behaviour, they are loyal to their factions, a result of their domestication by the devils. Their loyalty to the devils is strong, and they obey unconditionally any order they receive.

Domestizierung

The domestication of the Manticores by the Devils has created a close bond between these two demon species. The Devils have channelled the wild and aggressive instincts of the Manticores and used them to their own advantage. Through violent subjugation and deliberate control, the devils have made the Manticores loyal and obedient. They have honed their combat skills and turned them into effective tools for their own ends.

Gesichtszüge

The facial features radiate both strength and wildness. Their face is characterised by broad cheekbones that give them an imposing expression. The muzzle is strong with a large, black nose in the centre. Their yellow eyes radiate intense determination and are underlined by prominent eyebrow ridges. The ears are rather small and pointed. Around their massive jaws are strong, muscular cheeks that enhance their impressive bite.

The intelligence of Manticores is very limited compared to other demon races. They have primitive thought patterns and are guided solely by their animal instincts. Their mental abilities are limited to the essentials and mainly comprise survival strategies, hunting techniques and territorial behaviour. They lack the ability to think logically about complex matters.

Thanks to their lion eyes, Manticores have excellent vision. Not only can they perceive fine details in their surroundings, they can also maintain clear vision in low light or at night. This visual acuity is crucial when they are on the lookout for prey from the air. Their ears give Manticores excellent hearing. They can accurately detect sounds at different frequencies, which enables them to hear prey from a distance and recognise potential dangers early on. Their keen sense of smell enables them to sniff out prey at great distances and also identify enemies or conspecifics based on their unique scent. This is particularly useful for hunting and guarding territory. The Manticores' large bat wings are not only used for flying, but also improve their spatial perception. This enables them to accurately estimate distances and differences in height. This ability is particularly important when attacking from the air or manoeuvring through complex landscapes.

The Manticores are used in a variety of ways by the Devils in the Realm of Kagdranoth. Primarily, they are utilised as scouts to reconnoitre enemy territories and gather important information. Their ability to fly fast and with great manoeuvrability makes them ideal for such tasks, as they are able to travel quickly over long distances. In addition, Manticores often act as personal pets or companions to Devils. They are faithful servants, loyal to their masters and carry out their orders without hesitation. Manticores only take an active part in battles on the orders of their masters. Their imposing stature, their impressive fighting strength and their ability to incapacitate enemies with their paralysing poison make them feared opponents on the battlefield. They are often used to cause chaos and confusion, or to distract and kill specific targets.
