The Purelake

In the Brimdale Mountains of North Cambria. The pure, holy waters of the lake are notoriously valuable for alchemists, but considered sacred by the tribes there. The town suffered a near-extinction late in the fourth century and subsequently bloomed, now hosting some thousand or so mountainfolk. It is most well known for its tavern and dwarven holy site, Shirley's Temple, which peddles the town Baron's own recipes of magical ales.   The township hosts a D'haaran temple at the lake's center, and the lake itself is often the home of the Archdruid Deine's lifelong hydra companion, known to the human realms as The Beast of a Hundred Heads.

  • History

Originally occupied by Goliaths, Dwarves and other montane creatures, but since the village was corrupted and overthrown by a cult of Aalackosh in 368 S.A the town's populace dwindled to several dozen dwarves and earthen spirits.   In 368 S.A, a cult of Aalackosh took residence in the Purelake. The demon lord's minions grew in number and strength, glutting themselves on the pure waters and corrupting the lake with their greed and dark magic. The cult was eventually dismantled by the warrior-priestess Aratiri of D'haar and her companions, who re-established the Purelake has a hospitable refuge for the civilized mountain-dwelling races.   Following the Battle for the Purelake in 368 S.A, the Blessed Forge appeared atop the town's temple to D'haar and remained there until the new year's comet of 371 S.A.   In the decades that followed, the town blossomed, thanks in part to the bazaar instituted by the Favoured Few during their tenure in the township in combination with the divinely enhanced ales brewed by Aratiri in her dual role as head Brewmaster and Baron of the Purelake. The town's location is prohibitive, of course, and so even these unusual wares sold only thanks to the teleportation circle inscribed by Elyon before his death in 371 S.A.
