Bedegar

Geography

Bedegar is a human-controlled province centrally located between the other two human provinces of Anderim and North Cambria. As a human territory, it is controlled by Duke and townships are governed by local Barons. The province is ruled by House Crow.   The mountain ranges on the east and western fronts of Bedegar place the province in a deep valley frequented by fog and rainstorms. What land remains unmarred by human enterprise is humid rainforest and thick bog. Most notably, Sparrow Holt is the largest contiguous jungle on the continent.

Settlements

  • Taramyr. The provincial capitol and major port.
  • Hearthome.
  • Whiteriver. Formerly Woodsworth, and home to Valentine Castle.
  • Greytower. A tradesman's crossroads between The Broken Colonies and Bedegar.
  • Raven Rock.
  • Landmarks

  • Sparrow Holt. A sprawling, lush jungle stretching nearly from Raven Rock to Whiteriver.
  • Temple to Azrael & Artos. A dual-purpose construction meant for reverence between the two divinities. The temple is in the Sparrow Holt, a short journey west of Hearthome.
  • Gottfried's Crater. A deep swamp rife with uncontrollable magical energy. The result of the wizard attempting to resolve an open Leyline, and the site from which the flying city of Haven was excavated.
  • Ruins of Blackreach. The remnants of Bedegar's former capitol. A rift in the earth razed to ash by Balor & dragonfire during the War of the Red Scale
  • Seascale Bay. A wide bay connecting Taramyr to the northern ocean and home to the Seascale merfolk and wayward Thalassian elves.
  • The Isle of Gold. Though not strictly under ownership of Bedegarian nobility, this island sits several days' travel north of Seascale Bay and is claimed to be Bedegarian land.
  • Inhabitants

Residents of Bedegar are predominantly human, however a number of Dwarven and Arborean Elves dwell in the southern reaches, and a few red dragonborn populations exist in northern Bedegar (refugee families following the War of the Red Scale). Taramyr's function as a port city has resulted in a more mixed population.

    History

  • ca. 250 S.A: Bedegar was a major player in the War of the Red Scale, resulting in the destruction of Blackreach, the liberation of Anderim, and the designation of Taramyr as the new capitol.
  • Summer 306 S.A. Bedegar defends the newly seceded North Cambria from renegade mercenaries formerly of the Cambrian military. Bedegar leverages North Cambria's weak position to negotiate the trade of several merchant galleons in return.
  • Springtime, 307 S.A. First Battle for Greytower. Highlord Darius Crow sends a battalion to claim Greytower, left defended by a disorganized (formerly) Cambrian force in the wake of the War of Retribution. Crow underestimates the Field Commander in charge of Greytower, and the Bedegarians are repelled. Six months later, the Bedegarian contingent returns in force and makes brutal example of the knights of Greytower, claiming the town as trading post and military outpost for Bedegar.
