Anderim

Anderim is the western most human-dominated province, bordered on the east and south by the Colibrian mountain range and comprises nearly half of the Azure Coast. As a human-dominated realm, it is ruled by a Duke that oversees numerous baronies within the provincial borders.   Anderim is predominantly rocky, uneven ground scored by river canyons. Anderim's lack of a forests allows the province to be lashed by heavy winds rolling easterly from the Azure coast. As consequence, the hilltops of Anderim's landscape are mostly barren rock, stocky shrubs or short, tough herbs while the valleys remain lush with tall, rambunctious wildflowers.

    Inhabitants

The sturdy rock of Anderim's underground makes for durable caves, so Anderim has attracted a large population of both Ankhegs and the (only marginally more agreeable) Thri-kreen. Likewise, the steep rocky valleys have become suitable terrain for basilisks, harpies, and wyverns, the latter which spend their time hunting the colossal Rocs that soar on Anderim's easterly winds.   Somewhat regrettably, an unknown "entrepreneur" introduced a handful of Behirs to Anderim in an effort to cull the remaining wyrmling population sometime after the War of the Red Scale; the behirs escaped, and there now exists a persistent behir population that stalks the rocky slopes for unsuspecting harpies, wyverns and adventurers.

    History

    War of the Red Scale

Eondris reigned in Anderim for 13 years before an attack on the Bedegarian town of Raven Rock sparked underlying tensions between the Bedegarian Duke and Anderim dragonlords and war was declared. The conflict was short and violent, marked notably by the destruction of Blackreach (Bedegar's former capitol), a secretive operation that saw the assassination the dragonlords both Karsk and Mollenrue, and the final battle for Taramyr city in Bedegar where Eondris was slain at last.

    Rule of the Dragonlords

In the 232nd year of the Second Age, the red dragon Eondris, backed by a cult of fire and her brood of dragons attacked the walled cities of Anderim unprovoked. Their dragonfire razed settlements, scorched farmers' fields and turned much of the province to an ashen wasteland. Many fled eastward to Bedegar or southward to Dumont, but their capacity for aid was quickly exhausted. Those who remained, by will or force, were made to migrate to the central cities--now under bloody control of red dragons--where the clerics of the "new god" Eondris were providing meagre rations of food for the population to survive.
