Ashdelver Foundry
Built into and along the cliff-face that separates the Merchant and Noble Wards, the Ashdelver Foundry is still standing only due to the bizarre property laws of Hemos. Nobody can demolish or use the building as long as the Ashdelver Clan still survives, but as they fled to Sethia eighty years ago, the factory has lain empty for human generations.
Architecture
If there is one good thing that can be said about the foundry, it is that it was certainly defensible in its day. A thick wall of cut stone cuts across the entire front of the property, topped with a swirling mix of iron spikes and blades, positioned to deny any chance of scaling the wall. Four stout towers rest two meters back from the wall, bridged by another wall, this one of two stories, with firing positions on the upper level. The walls also go from the towers back to the cliff, splitting the area into three courtyards. A wrought iron gate is placed at the center of the outer wall, leading up to a large doorway, between the two middle towers. While it now lies open, it was once guarded by a pair of thick adamantium doors, and the stonework of the towers and walls is held together by adamantium instead of mortar. More doorways connect the three courtyards to the interior of the foundry, similarly stripped of their doors.
Small towers and pieces of stonework jut from the cliff above, extremely defensive in nature as they overlook the entrance. A smaller compound sits against the wall of the Noble Ward, a single tower rising from the one-story building that rests between two townhouses, another spiked wall defending the edge of the property, although this entrance only had a small but thick steel door, followed by another stolen door of adamantium. A nest of smoke stacks rises alongside the back of the tower, held together by a thick lattice.
History
Built by the Ashdelver clan in 4322, the Ashdelver Foundry was, for a short time, the largest manufacturer of Adamantium in Hemos. The Redsteel clan soon took issue with this however, and by 4335 the foundry changed hands, with the remnants of the Ashdelver clan fleeing south to Sethia.
After stealing the clan secrets of the Ashdelvers and observing their manufacturing process, the Redsteel clan simply took their stock and then left the foundry to rust, as they did not technically have legal ownership of it. They then used their stolen contracts and processes to expand their own foundry on the other side of the Merchant Ward, quickly gaining a monopoly over the Adamantium trade.
