The first case opens with Lincoln entering the offices of Faust & Whitmore Private Investigations with the client, Torreo “Corsa” Belleri. Lincoln explains to Faust and Athena that he knows Corsa from his wandering nomad days, and ran into him the night before at a bar. Corsa had clearly been stressed and told Lincoln he was in trouble and needed help, so Lincoln suggested he go to F&W. Corsa explains that he runs a business bringing genuine Piemonte wine into the city from the countryside, an act which is technically illegal due to corporate monopoly protection laws. He had built the business himself, but had joined with the Unione Milanese for protection. Unfortunately, this meant the business now belonged to the Unione, so when several cases of stolen wine were found in the trunk of his car, Corsa was abruptly removed from his position. An audit conducted by the Unione consigliere, Orchid, found that almost 30,000 eurodollars worth of wine had gone missing in the past few months, resulting in Corsa being barred from contacting his employees or approaching his warehouse again. His second-in-command, Cadence Matthews, was given control of the operation, and Corsa himself believes he was allowed to live only because the district underboss, Chessman, is fond of him.
