Phantom Limbs' Phantoms Condition in Curse You | World Anvil

Phantom Limbs' Phantoms

"Did you just touch my hand?"

The so-called Dimension Hopping is the most common method of how people get introduced to the practical aspects of magic. Some people do it through lucid dreaming, some people walk the astral planes better than they navigate their normal life, while others mess up a rune during a summoning or prefer the neater version of reading a forbidden book. All of a sudden the world starts to feel wrong, the colours are off (if there are still any) and you start to suspect that gravity is up to some shady business.   While Dimension Hopping is fairly harmless, given the fact that it is not a full transportation in the physical sense, it can really mess up your brain for a couple of hours. In case your soul projection is having trouble getting back to its rightful place inside your own body, there is a simple yet very effective way to treat this and get you back.
Introducing: The Buckettm
— Only has minor side effects.
Bucket is a mix of cold water (preferably with some ice), Fantelli salt and a minor healing potion - ingredients that are very easy to come by. It is the number one medicine for people who seem to be stuck in a magicaly induced coma. And you simply dump it on them, hence the catchy name. Works like a charm.   Except. There is this one tiny problem: the phantoms.   Sometimes, more than your own soul comes back, especially if the coma lasted longer than an hour. That's roughly the time your soul projection starts forming attachments. Sometimes they're good, sometimes not so much. Unfortunately, in most cases, it takes about a day until someone notices that you're gone, so the Phantom Limbs' Phantoms condition is rather common among mankind. The medicine itself cannot distinguish your soul from other aetherial beings and simply stimulates your nerve endings to such a degree that your body instinctually pulls everything that is in any way connected to it back.   Once you awake - other than being completely soaked - you also feel something else. It might feel like a third hand, a tail or maybe something growing out of your back, but so far there is no evidence that you actually acquire any additional limbs in the real- or aetherspace. You just... feel them there. For a while. (And sometimes, things start feeling you back.)   This condition is mostly harmless but deeply unsettling. There are other, more gentle treatements available, but they tend to be more time and resource consuming.
