Lady Fiona Wachter
Lady Fiona Wachter is the head of the Wachter family, and the chief rival of Baron Vargas Vallakovich in Vallaki.
The Vallakovichs and the Wachters have been enemies for generations, but this doesn't need to always be the case. This was the thinking that led the two rivals to arrange a betrothal betwen their children, Stella Wachter and Victor Vallakovich. However, the peace between the two houses was short-lived. Several meetings were arranged for the betrothed couple, but the kind Stella grew ever more distant after each meeting. Then one day, Stella began acting like a cat. Baron Vargas called off the betrothal, and rumors of Stella's insanity somehow began circulating in town. Fiona locked Stella in her room for safety while she looked for a way to cure her daughter. To her the solution was obvious. Victor Vallakovich had to be behind her daughter's condition, and he should fix it. However, Baron Vargas ridiculed the very idea that his son could do such a thing. With no help coming from those she believed responsible, Fiona turned towards a party of adventurers that had fortuitously shown up on her doorstep. While they failed to cure Stella they did manage to determine that Stella's condition was likely the result of magic, not a curse, and not insanity. Now with a thread of hope, Fiona contemplated her next moves. Fiona makes no secret that she thinks of Strahd von Zarovich as the rightful ruler of Barovia. After all, what reason is there to worry about a distant and noticeably absent vampire when the Vallakovichs have been brutalizing the people of Vallaki for generations, all in the name of protecting them from the evil of the devil Strahd? Clearly the problem is Vargas, not Strahd.
