The Caetica Region
The southern borders of Pilaan and Khafra are a porous area loosely defined by fort towns and trading posts with Khazigiri protection. Stretching for hundreds of miles south of that relatively safe jungle is the ancient virgin forest of the Caetica, a name given to it by the Cumaeans twenty thousand years ago for a region even they never attempted to colonize into their world-spanning empire. Khazig sponsors expeditions into the region and trades briskly with its independent city-states but has never seen a value to annexing or governing the region.
This is in contrast to Mlastina, which was for millennia a thriving province of the Ancient Cumaean Empire, and for centuries after that government collapsed, still maintained its independence under the governance of a king and a council of nobles, until relatively recent centuries left it to be reclaimed by Jungles and the god-giantess Abaia; The Caetica has always been an untamed place of oversized monsters, mysterious ruined temples and overgrown wrecks of strange metal ships rumored to have crashed from the stars.
