S1 E3: The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan, part 2

General Summary

  • They topple the statue, finding the loose eyes are small snails, but taking the sword from its back. They decide against the acid-lined secret hallway and go into the larger chamber through double bronze doors instead.
  • They follow the trail of water out of the room full of toppled statues and silver pyramidions to a large semi-flooded chamber. Fought some diseased rats in garbage near one clogged fountain, the other holds a bullfrog with a brood of tadpoles.
  • In the room proper, there are symbols under the water guiding where to step and not to step; close to the other side they meet up with Tecuzi, the Lord of Snails, who tries to trick them into the deeper water, but they see through his ruse, and he reluctantly tells them which way to go, though he seems pleased when he tells them he'll see them again soon.
  • Finding a bowed out, watertight door, the gang makes good preparations to not be washed away, and then Ris pops the hinges. A massive wave of water floods the tunnel but they're roped in place. However the water holds a water elemental that seems very upset at being disturbed. Thinking quickly, they freeze it, and it is washed away in the current back into Tecuzi's room.
  • They cross the flooded room, and find the other end of the passage that went behind the toppled statue. Following the flow of water down the main hall to the east, they come upon an open chamber full of sunlight and birdsong, occupied by a water spirit of some kind that tries to put the moves on Ris, who is having none of it. Frustrated, she tries to swim away, but bangs into the floor of the passage just twelve feet down. She has been trapped here, cursed to be able to see her home but not return to it. She identifies herself as Dalatut, Once a daughter of the rain and river god, Kiboko, but now calls herself a 'child of Yengatut' - who Yengatut is, remains unclear, but the priest in the chamber that everyone noped out of in part 1 was named 'Enkaboun, priest of Yenkatut.'
  • Morose and depressed, Yengatut makes no further move to bother the party, but they understand that the everpresent amber gas causes damage over time that could outpace the healing one could get over a short or long rest period. Planning (and a short delve into the rules for short and long rests) may be in order. At the far end of the room are bronze doors, open slightly and swaying aimlessly in the random currents of the beach room. Beyond them little can be seen in the darkness, other than the hall taking a turn to the left after another 20 or so feet.
