Gleerium (GLEER-E-UM)

Few cities of man can offer the magical exoticness of Gleerium. Home to over 28,000 humans, Gleerium is well known for being a mecca for Mages all across Cruul as well as being the best place to shop in the human world. The city harbors one of the largest populations of the major cities and it houses some of the most educated citizens of the entire kingdom. The City is barely 600 years old and in that short time has become a powerful center of trade, art and magic- and the headquarters of the BMSI (Bureau of Magical Study and Investigation)

Points of interest.

The Shops.

Many travelers come for the legendary shops located in the northern commerce section of the city called "Glimmerwalk" (after the way the roads magically sparkle there). The world's largest Walled Market "WalledMart" is found here and it offerers in-stock chances at x2 the normal rates (but cost 10x the price). Glimmerwalk is famous for offering countless forms of entertainment and performance, with the Kingdom's finest theaters being here.

The Schools.

The best magic schools in the human realm are found in Gleerium. The majority of famous living wizards and mages have attended school at one or more of Gleerium's top three competing schools of magic.
  • Yaarvard Acadmy of Sorcery- The leading school for expansive magical knowledge with a strong moral foundation. Best magic school in the human realm.
  • Solumbia University of Magics- The first college of Gleerium that offerers non-combative classes focusing on moral decision and lawful intent.
  • Stabford Institute of Military Magic- Most who graduate are placed in cushy government positions or serve as battle mages. The BMSI hire mostly from this school.
  • VonGloom School of Damnation- A school for learning of dark arts, demons and monsters. The school has heavy theological courses and does not actually teach evil magic.
  • Fooliard's Academy of Magical Arts- The world's leading supplier of fresh magical talents of entertainment and art.

The East Port.

The Gleerium sea port is the only port in Vangash that leaves for the Island of Crim. Various rare and exotic goods move through this port daily, as well as passengers from all over the known world. The constant flow of visiting people is an important part of the city's social fabric. Many wealthy or adventurous folk have decided to remain as residents of Gleerium after first disembarking onto this port.     The Prison. Though not a place most would wish to visit- (to be continued)

Demographics

The city is always crowded and busy with people living in cramped quarters and tall buildings. The expense of living in Gleerium is above the Kingdom's average, causing locals to work harder or smarter to afford the Gleerium life. The poor sections are nicer than most poor sections elsewhere, with smarter families entertaining deeper thoughts and ideas. The wealthy are usually attached to old money or have made new fortunes with inventive concepts or contraptions. There is a large Mage populace in Gleerium with most being young students attending college in the magic universities offered within the walls of the city.

Government

Like all cities of Vangash, Gleerium is ruled by an appointed Lord Governor who serves the King's wishes. The current Governor is Lord Governor Dar'Gargafarr Dashery, who also serves as the head of the BMSI and a 3rd level mage.

Above selling knowledge, the city also has a very strong trade industry as the only large port to Crim within Vangash. Exports and imports flow constantly bringing economic boon to Gleerium's government and its people alike. The city has the largest known collection of magic items in the world, with most of them being issued to the BMSI to add their work.

Tourism

People from all over the world come to shop in the Gleerium markets or to enjoy the colorful entertainment of the city. It is a welcoming port to Crim and this brings in exotic travelers that over time have added to the culture of Gleerium as a whole. The city is known for its progressive acceptance of newer ideas and philosophies when it comes to matters of race or class. The city is called the city of Magic and Misery by most tourists- A magical wonder for some, but a miserable prison to the worst men alive.
