Zak Starcut (a.k.a. Skeppy, Hermes)
Alexander Farrowbone's best friend. They met in the illegal ring, Skeppy working as a guard and Alexander as a fighter. Despite not being one of the gladiators, Skeppy was also enslaved by one of the main sponsors, known only as The Egg for the solid ruby eggs they would bet.
Skeppy had made a deal with The Egg to keep his family safe, and was occasionally possessed by The Egg via The Egg's Amulet to demonstrate its power and control over him.
Alexander and Skeppy bonded while he wasn't possessed, and Skeppy was there when Phil arrived to break Alexander out. Alex swore to return and get him and his family out. Alex makes good on his word, breaks up the illegal ring, and helps Skeppy break his agreement and kill The Egg. Despite this, Skeppy doesn't know where his family went.
They all leave for Alex's town that he built with Phil, alongside other escapees, and settled into their new life outside of the ring and its trauma.
Skeppy is a prominent member of the town's militia and is one of the lead trainers in hand-to-hand combat. He is constantly conflicted between staying in his new home or tracking down his old one to find his family.
