Zofia Muller
Chancellor Zofia Muller
Zofia Muller was the founder of the European Union. She assumed leadership at a moment when powerful forces of change were affecting the region. Her military officers had succeeded remarkably well as conquerors, but their victories resulted in a kingdom made up of diverse peoples over which unified rule grew increasingly difficult. Her personal qualities served her well in confronting that challenge. The ideal warrior, Muller was an imposing physical presence blessed with extraordinary energy, personal courage, and an iron will. She loved the active life—military campaigning, hunting, swimming—but she was no less at home at politics, generous with her gifts, a boon companion at the Parliament, and adept at establishing friendships. Although she received only an elementary level of formal education, Muller possessed considerable native intelligence, intellectual curiosity, a willingness to learn from others, and sensibility—all attributes which allowed her to comprehend the forces that were reshaping the world about her. These facets of her persona combined to make her a figure worthy of respect, loyalty, and affection; she was a leader capable of making informed decisions, willing to act on those decisions, and skilled at persuading others to follow her.
Muller was mindful of the obligation of a Chancellor to maintain the unity of the region. This burden was complicated by the ethnic, linguistic, and legal divisions between the populations brought under the European Union
