Grandmaster - Jewelcrafting
"Don't stare too long friend, it might capture more than your attention."
Sagolicus Brightpowder, Grandmaster Jewelcrafter displaying one of his gems
Qualifications
Master before Grandmaster.
Appointment
To be considered a Grandmaster, jewelcrafters must create something the world has never seen before. Something that will launch the Gem Cutters Guild even higher in the esteem of the masses. Often this creation is considered only feasible by gods and their mastery of existence. Because of this, the political maneuvers that may get a person to Master no longer work. It becomes very clear who can change a kingdom with a gem versus who can change the world.
Duties
Grandmasters have been around for long enough that they hold secrets most people should not possess. Keeping these secrets away from the rabble is of utmost importance. In the wrong hands, dilettantes could cause terrible damage through their ignorance. These secrets often pertain to the fabric of reality and their manipulation of it, but can extend to the political machinations that may tear a kingdom asunder.
Responsibilities
There are no pre-determined responsibilities for Grandmasters, they tend to set their own schedules. This position is rare enough that meeting one is an event in one's life; telling that person they need to craft a commission or pay a fee would be ridiculous. Grandmasters craft whatever they want, often staking their legacy to these pieces. They've been studying jewelcrafting for so long, that by the time that they reach the rank of Grandmaster, they're in their twilight years.
Benefits
The rank itself imparts no additional benefits that previous ranks haven't already given. Rather, the majesty of this title emanates from the grandmaster themselves. Those that have practiced their craft for long enough are creating legends. They've exceeded the guild, which seems a paltry footnote in the story of their lives. Their skill is such that the area surrounding their Gemmed Coves has regional effects. Spectra and Amman's Rule each have distorted the landscape around them, much as a dragon or vampire does, but nothing nearly as sinister.
Accoutrements & Equipment
There's nothing required for a grandmaster to wear; anything they would be given would be of lower quality than they can make and requiring a legend to wear anything is as ridiculous as demanding a fee. Interestingly enough, the two living grandmasters tend to wear simple garb, relative to Expert - Jewelcrafting. Sagolicus Brightpowder wears his Ruby Crown but that's part of the title of his office.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Grandmasters can be dismissed as easily as their masterpieces can be ignored.
