Bone and Ivory
A crumbling saloon sits at the center of a forsaken boom town, its weathered exterior sagging and covered in dust. The windows are dark, the boards creaking with every gust of wind, and the faint sound of something scraping against the wood can be heard in the quiet. It is a place that feels forgotten by time, haunted by the memory of those who once walked its halls.
Deeper: This saloon is where the Tooth Taker lingers—a ghostly apparition, a former highwayman doomed to haunt the town where its luck finally ran dry. Shadows move strangely within, a chill lingers in the air, and unseen eyes watching every move. Those who rest within or near this desolate town risk crossing paths with the Tooth Taker. It appears as a spectral mask of from wood, not unlike those you'd find with a travelling theater troupe. The eyes are empty vacuous holes above a long pointed noise. Purple bile drips from its grinning lips showing the gaps where its own teeth were taken.
Many are drawn to this ghost town by tales of riches or a desire to uncover the truth behind the The Tooth Taker's Curse. Some come hoping to find a way to end his restless roaming, while others are lured by the thrill of playing a dangerous game with a figure from the past.
It moves without sound, seeking those who sleep to render them feeble and docile while it slips into their dreams with poisoned breath. In their dreams he engages them in his twisted games. He offers a wager to the dreamer—a game of knucklebones where the stakes are teeth, "we play till one of us runs out. Then, we will let you go."
Locked in an iron dog-cage under the stairs, a shell of a man stares at the floor motionless. His sunken eyes, overgrown hair and nails, are filthy with grime. He mutters and mumbles incomprehensibly in squalor, lips and nose stained purple for the Tooth Takers potent poisons. A barrel of stale biscuit rations doubles as a table, where a blood stained leather pouch and iron pliers sits accusingly.
In the pouch are [8D4] gold teeth, a small fortune to most, the result of the Tooth Taker's past exploits. A secret stash under loose floorboards contains valuables hidden by the thrall abandoned by those who fell to his poison breath in years gone by.
