Waymoot

Waymoot is a prominent large town located within the King's Forest in Cormyr. Known for its vibrant trade and rich history, it serves as a central hub for commerce and culture in the region.

Geography

Situated in a five-mile-wide man-made clearing within the King's Forest, Waymoot stands at the crossroads of the Way of the Dragon and Ranger's Way. Its strategic location makes it a vital link between neighboring settlements such as Espar to the northwest and Dhedluk to the northeast. The town's fresh water supply is sourced from the nearby Starwater River.

Government

Waymoot is governed by a baron rather than a local lord. In the mid-15th century DR, Lord Aedric Krell was awarded the seat for services to the crown, as the final descendant of Lord "Trollkiller" Woodband died 3 years earlier. The town also had a herald, Dhag Greybeard, who served under Lord Woodband during this period.

Economy and Trade

The town thrives on horse breeding and training, supplying mounts for both private citizens and the military. Waymoot is also renowned for its wagon construction and repair services. Numerous inns cater to travelers and traders, reflecting its bustling commercial activity. Animal pelts from the Thunder Peaks and the Storm Horns are among the notable exports.

Defenses

A contingent of Purple Dragon troops patrols Waymoot regularly, ensuring the safety of its inhabitants and travelers. Lord Woodband's Keep, a central stone-walled fortress, is equipped with ballistae and catapults atop its battlements, underscoring the town's readiness to defend against threats.

History and Legends

Waymoot's origins trace back to a troll-infested campground that evolved into a thriving trade center. Beneath the town lie collapsed catacombs, once home to a gold dragon and later a beholder, fueling local legends of hidden treasures and lurking dangers. The town is also associated with the Legend of the Sleeping Kings, which speaks of deceased Obarskyr monarchs resting beneath Waymoot, awaiting a time of great need to rise again.
