Purple Dragons Barracks - Minroe

Overview

The Purple Dragons Barracks in Minroe is a modest yet sturdy structure located near the town’s centre. Built to house the small detachment of six Purple Dragons assigned to protect the mining community, the barracks serves as both a base of operations and a symbol of Cormyr’s authority in the region.

Layout

The barracks is a simple, practical building:
  • **Ground Floor:** Includes a small guardroom, two reinforced jail cells for holding prisoners, and a common area where the Dragons gather for briefings and meals.
  • **Upper Floor:** Provides sleeping arrangements for five soldiers, with a small private room designated for the Swordcaptain’s use, though **Swordcaptain Kreskur Harrow** typically resides with his family elsewhere in town. The room remains available for official use or emergencies.
  • The structure is constructed of stone and timber, with narrow windows for security and a small, well-kept yard for drills and equipment storage.

    Leadership

The barracks is led by Swordcaptain Kreskur Harrow, a seasoned and respected officer known for his deep ties to Minroe, with Telsword Alina Marcholl serving as his capable second-in-command. Alina oversees day-to-day operations at the barracks in Harrow’s absence.

    Purpose

The Purple Dragons stationed in Minroe are tasked with:
  • Enforcing the laws of Cormyr.
  • Protecting the townsfolk from bandits, aberrations, and other dangers.
  • Maintaining order within the mining community.
  • While modest, the barracks plays a vital role in the town’s safety and order, offering both a base for the Dragons and a reminder of the Crown’s presence in Minroe.

    Purpose / Function

The current Purple Dragons Barracks in Minroe was not originally built for military purposes. Before being repurposed as a guard house, the building served as the Miner’s Guildhall, a communal space for the town’s miners to gather, coordinate work schedules, and resolve disputes.   Constructed decades ago, the guildhall was a modest but functional structure, with sturdy stone walls and a timber roof designed to withstand the wear and tear of a bustling mining town. The lower level housed meeting rooms and a records archive, while the upper floor served as a small dormitory for traveling guild representatives.   However, as Minroe's mining industry declined and centralised control shifted to wealthy mine owners rather than the guild, the building fell into disuse. When the Crown assigned a detachment of Purple Dragons to protect Minroe, the abandoned guildhall was a natural choice for their barracks, given its robust construction and central location.
