1. The Purple Dragons
The backbone of Cormyr's military, the Purple Dragons are a professional standing army responsible for protecting the realm’s borders, enforcing laws, and maintaining peace.
- Duties: Border patrols, garrisoning key locations, and responding to major threats like invasions or monster incursions.
- Structure: Commanded by the Lord High Marshal, with regional captains overseeing units stationed across the kingdom.
- Notable Garrisons: Suzail, Arabel, Marsember, and High Horn.
2. The War Wizards
A specialized branch of spellcasters, the War Wizards support the military with magic and act as advisors to the Crown.
- Duties: Counterspell defense, battlefield support, intelligence gathering, and protecting against magical threats.
- Leader: The Royal Magician of Cormyr (historically figures like Vangerdahast and Caladnei).
- Role: They also police the use of magic within the kingdom to ensure safety and prevent misuse.
3. The High Road Patrols
These units consist of mounted soldiers who patrol the King’s Forest, the Stormhorns, and major trade routes like the Way of the Dragon and Trader’s Road.
- Duties: Protecting merchants and travelers from bandits, monsters, and other threats.
- Structure: Often composed of veteran Purple Dragons with experience in rugged terrain and guerilla tactics.
4. The Navy of Cormyr
Cormyr’s naval forces defend its coastline along the Dragonmere and ensure the safety of trade routes on the Inner Sea.
- Fleet Base: Primarily stationed in Suzail and Marsember.
- Duties: Protecting maritime trade, countering piracy, and defending against naval invasions.
5. The Crownsguard
A prestigious unit responsible for the direct protection of the royal family and key government officials.
- Duties: Guarding the Royal Palace in Suzail, escorting royalty, and securing diplomatic missions.
- Composition: Elite soldiers chosen from the Purple Dragons.
Other Forces
- Local Militias: Cormyr’s towns and villages maintain small militias for local defense, often supported by Purple Dragon detachments in times of need.
- Adventuring Companies: While not an official military branch, adventurers chartered by the Crown often act as auxiliary forces, addressing specific threats or undertaking dangerous missions.
Laws
- All persons entering Cormyr must register with the officials of a border garrison.
- Foreign currency can only be used in certain locations. Please exchange your coins for Cormyrean golden lions at your first opportunity.
- Adventurers must acquire a charter before undertaking any operation as a group.
- All weapons must be peace-bonded. The only persons exempt from this law are members of chartered adventuring groups and members of mercenary groups that can offer proof of employment.
- Harming cats is forbidden.
- Bow your head to royalty and the local nobility.
- Purple Dragons have the right to search you upon request.
- Hunting on private land is forbidden.
