Durrust's Mill

Overview

Durrust’s Mill stands at the edge of the Dathyl River, its weathered wooden wheel groaning as it churns through the brisk, churning waters. The mill is a modest, timeworn structure built of rough-hewn stone and timber, with ivy snaking up its sides and moss blanketing its foundation. The rhythmic splash of the waterwheel echoes through the quiet clearing, a sound as familiar to the villagers as the river itself.   For generations, the mill has provided flour for the people of Espar and surrounding farms. Its current keeper, Kalisa Durrust, is a pragmatic and reserved woman with deep ties to the land. She works tirelessly to keep the aging mill functional despite its frequent breakdowns, often muttering about the strain of its failing mechanisms.   Inside, the mill is dim and dusty, with sunlight filtering through small, grimy windows and cracks in the timber walls. Sacks of grain and barrels of flour line the walls, while the grinding mechanism fills the air with a rhythmic, grating hum. The faint scent of flour mingles with the earthy smell of damp wood and river water.

Appearance

The mill is a sturdy, albeit weathered, building made of stone and timber:
  • Exterior: The stone foundation is thick and overgrown with moss, while the wooden beams above it are darkened by age and weather. The waterwheel, though creaking, still turns reliably with the flow of the Dathyl River.
  • Interior: Simple and functional, the space is dominated by the grinding mechanism and stacked sacks of grain. Wooden walls, worn smooth by years of use, are dimly lit by shafts of sunlight filtering through cracks.
