Kingdom of Durrow
A small Kingdom at the foot of the Spine Mountains. This Kingdom is ruled by a King and Queen sponsored by the Zalarite Order. The kingdom is populated by a diverse mixture of northern people including humans, Danites, Corgerians and Dark Corgerians. The Kingdom is centered around the City of Durrow with the other settlements being small fortified towns or agricultural villages. The Kingdom has been economically damaged by the Majaran conquest of Zareb, formerly its most important trading partner. The city's merchants have tried to compensate by increasing their trade with the lands to the north with the Crystal River replacing the eastern roads as the main trade route.
Structure
The King and Queen are effectively co-rulers served by a privy council that advises the rulers. The Kingdom is divided into nine counties ruled by a count or countess that are responsible for law enforcement, taxation and infrastructure with their domains. Each county provides are share of its taxes and a draft of soldiers to the royal government.
Demography and Population
The Kingdom has a population of roughly 150,000. Human mountaineers are the largest group accounting for about 70 percent of the population with perhaps another 10 percent consisting of Northron Human. The remaining twenty percent is a mixture of Corgerians, Dark Corgerians and Danites. Durrow is the only city while the counties each center around a fortified town of 1,000-1,500 people.
Military
The Kingdom maintains a small permanent military consisting of a 100 member royal guard, three squadrons of cavalry, three companies of heavy foot and three companies of crossbowmen. These are support by a twelve royal mages. The Kingdom can call on assistance from the Zalarite order and can levy the forces of the counts. Each count maintains a small force of mounted an foot troops which usually can be supplemented by several companies of militia.
