Geography
The Barren Wastes is, as its name suggests, a desolate and brutal wasteland where rolling sand dunes, cracked and craggy ground, and dead flora are the scenery that makes up the landscape. The land here is rough, lifeless, and full of gaping crags and monstrously large canyons that carve through the lifeless ground, sometimes spanning for miles across and down...the trees and flora here are dead and brittle, and only the towering peaks of The Crawling Mountains to the south provide any precious break in the monotony of the terrain. Almost no water exists here aside from the rivers that flow down from the north and into this lifeless land, and while the land is a naturally quite picturesque and beautiful one, the fact that only the hardiest and most daring or desperate of creatures can or wish to survive here hinder it from being truly appreciated.
Fauna & Flora
Almost no flora grows here, with the only examples seen peeking through the dead rocky ground and sandy dunes being dead trees, lifeless bushes and other plants, and other dead flora that has long since dried up and withered away. Only in the deepest canyons, darkest caves, and secluded spots hidden around The Barren Wastes can anything hope to grow...but even then, it is mostly restricted to cave moss or other lichens.
Similarly, almost no animals dare to make their homes here aside from brutal monsters such as Rocs, Purple Worms, and other deadly monsters...no mere animals can hope to thrive here, and as such almost none can be found. Likewise, only the most desperate and daring of creatures venture here, meaning that the only people one might encounter are most likely bandits, outlaws, or those with no where to go or something to hide.
Natural Resources
The Barren Wastes, ironically, have much to offer in the way of resources despite their mostly uninhabited nature. Whether the resources that can be gained from the killing of the numerous and deadly monsters that roam the land or the rich and valuable copper, lead, and iron deposits that line the canyons and caves across the land or even the strange, nightmare black oil that bubbles up in rare springs across the land...there are resources here aplenty, though the challenges come in obtaining them. Almost all resources here are yet untapped, and due to the extremely hazardous terrain only the bandits and other desperate creatures that eke out an existence here dare to mine or work for them in the smallest amounts...for any large scale operations here invariable attract the attention of the towering worms that burrow beneath the earth and the massive Rocs that fly through the sky, dooming any daring enough to work here to a quick and painful death.
The Barren Wastes also has a large supply of lumber, thanks to its numerous forests of dead and broken trees.
