Vernon Village
Vernon Village is a small farming community on the eastern side of the “River’s Fingers,” a series of smaller tributaries feeding into the Restile River. It benefits heavily from the rich, fertile soil in the region, sending its bountiful harvests down to Riverbend in exchange for weapons and supplies. Despite its small size and humble nature, however, the residents lead troubled lives. Gnolls in the northern plains like to send small raiding parties down to harass the villagers, leaving the people of Vernon Village little choice other than to fight or capitulate to the demands of the raiders.
Unwilling to bow to the will of their aggressors, the people of Vernon fight back as best they can. Residents of both Riverbend and Zettersberg try to help their regional neighbors, but with the two settlements being a few days away, and the gnolls preferring to attack and retreat without warning, it is rare that the people of Vernon Village have reinforcements when they are most needed.

Government
The people of Vernon Village used to have a village council, but since the arrival of Captain Hallenbrook, the village has been under a de facto state of martial law, giving nearly all power to the militia commander. The council, lead by Abel Morrison, still manages the affairs of the village, but only where they don't conflict with the militia's activities.
Defences
One of the most defended towns in the Union (especially given the size of the village), Vernon Village boasts a robust palisade wall around the entire town center, and crude, homemade fortifications built into nearly every building in the area. Mandatory membership in the village militia is in place for all able-bodied citizens, with no exceptions given for age.
