Base Ernest

There are very few people alive that know of Base Ernest - I hope it stays that way.

Base Ernest is the headquarters of Shackleton, located underneath Shackleton Range. It was named after Sir Henry Ernest Shackleton, a polar explorer who named Shackleton range. When the remains The base, which was built from a shelter built by Shackleton's crew, was named after him when Jacques Lambert noted that his name was inscribed upon the wall.
The Keln Empire are desperate to find the location of the base, and are often combing the area in search of it. But as the base is mostly located underground, it proves difficult to detect and has so far gone unnoticed.

Architecture

The Base has been built in the caverns underneath Shackleton Range. As a result, the base has been built around the caverns - sectioning areas within it to function as rooms. However, the base is brightly lit and not at all lacking in amenities.

History

In the aftermath of the Battle of Berkner, Jacques Lambert fled west with his followers to the mountains - to Shackleton Range. Whilst searching for a discreet shelter, he came across an abandoned shack bearing the name of the polar explorer that named the mountains. His party slept in the shack during the night, and in the morning Jacques had an idea.
He knew there were expansive caverns in the mountain range, and began to excavate the floor of the shack to access them. Through mechanical diggers, Jacques created an entrance to the caverns beneath the mountain range. As Shackleton expanded and grew, their base in the caverns became more strategically important.
Eventually, the base became a hub for all resistance activity - the shack above acting as a discreet entrance that can only be used with a digital key, granted only to those that the organisation trusts beyond all doubt. Most members of the resistance have no knowledge of Base Ernest's location.
