Arvelyn Alfhora Character in Colarn | World Anvil

Arvelyn Alfhora

Arvelyn Alfhora is a duratein or gray elf male, approximately 6 feet and 4 inches tall, thin, with sharp facial features, long black hair, and skin grayish in tone as is normal for his race. Not even he knows where he came from. For all his 550-year lifespan, he has lived all over the Kellerian Empire, living on the streets with no permanent home to call his own. His earliest memories we of learning to be a thief from different criminals as a child. Arvelyn had worked for several thieves’ guilds over the centuries, but would often leave when he got bored, turning instead to freelancing. He gained great skill in all things thievery and relished the challenge of acquiring a well-guarded item or sneaking into places where security is said to be impenetrable. After over 5 centuries of living this life, he decided that it had lost all its thrill. There was no longer any challenge. He decided to leave the thieving life and seek out new challenges. His tastes were inexpensive, and he had amassed a sizable fortune over 500 years. Much of it was stored away in several banks throughout the nation and he had more than enough to live a lavish lifestyle for the rest of his long elven years if he wished, but none of that appealed to him. Neither did the prospect of joining the military or an adventuring group seem like a good alternative. It was with these thoughts that he began his journey out of the urban sprawl of the big cities that he had known all his life and he journeyed down the roads to the more rural parts of the Empire. On his journey he had stopped in an Inn that was shortly robbed by a notorious local gang. Arvelyn quickly and quietly subdued every member without killing one and without anyone else in the Inn being the wiser. Arvelyn, being a professional criminal, did not approve of the more brutish methods that this gang was employing to get such a small financial payoff and dispatched them more out of annoyance than for any heroic reasons. When he was able to do so without being seen or suspected or stooping to killing, he felt a thrill that he hadn’t in over a century. He now travels the rural roads, dispatching brigands and saving those in need without them knowing who helped them, for the sheer challenge of it. He uses a variety of tricks such as tripwires, smoke bombs, small explosives, and non-lethal poisons to subdue his targets. It has given his life new meaning and it appeals to him that he has found new ways to use his skills.

Interesting story, specially the motivation for the current heroic activities of the character.
