Deep Lord Chungus

The City of Ten Thousand Daggers is home to many powerful entities who pursue their own inscrutable agendas in ways and over timespans that are difficult for normal humans to fully grasp. Some--like Ilka the Faceless or the living gods--operate out in the open and generally within the city's established power structure. Others, like The Queen of Eyes from so far within the shadows that their very existence is a matter of debate. Deep Lord Chungus falls into the latter category, overseeing a network of spies and minions from the deepest depths of the Undercity. In the case of Lord Chungus, the choice to remain behind the scenes is no doubt due in large part because very few humans would willingly choose to follow such an unnatural and alien creature. According to the urban legends, Deep Lord Chungus is an enormous floating sphere with a giant eye at its center just above a gaping maw filled with razor-sharp teeth. Chungus has a number of other eyes arranged along the top of its body, two of which are much larger then the rest, and a ridge of spikey horn-like projections behind the eyes. Several short tentacle-like appendages of varying size and usefulness jut asymmetrically from Lord Chungus's sides. There are numerous stories that claim to explain Chungus's unusual physiology, most of which boil down to "creature from another reality," "cursed former human," "victim of a magical accident or mutation." According one of the most popular tales, Chungus was born when the left eye of the defeated dragon Kirlyok somehow wound up in a Chimerists' vat. If Deep Lord Chungus is real, he operates from the deepest and most inaccessible (at least for someone without the ability to levitate in any direction at will) sections of the undercity, using human minions bound by pacts as well as less voluntary forms of magical control. While he does involve his minions in the day to day conflicts of the city to some extent, most people beleive that his true agenda lies somewhere in the undercity, perhaps in the ancient subterranean city that Vargo the Trollslayer and his descendants explored during the early days of Khezvaros.
