Corpse Hound

According to legend, the ghostly mastiff called the Corpse Hound was once The Lord of Bones' pet. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the beast was poorly treated by the Prince of Rot and tooks it chance to escape during one of the Carrion King's vists to the The Necropolis. Since its escape, the hound has periodically made appearances to point they way to the remains of the city's missing and forgotten dead. Given the belief that the dead who have not received any funeral rites are more succeptibly to the Lord of Bones' call, most people believe that the Corpse Hound has taken on this vocation to prevent them from easily falling into the clutches of his old master.   The Corpse Hound appears only on moonlit nights, because it knows that The Lord of Bones comes when there is no moon. It's often seen walking through the streets early in the night, but eventually it finds a spot and just waits. Sometimes it waits in the same spot uneventfully for several nights, returning back to wherever it came from shortly before dawn. Sooner or later, the person that the Corpse Hound has been waiting for will pass and the hound will approach them and attempt to convince them to follow him. If they refuse, the hound will follow them around for the rest of the night, baying and howling outside of whaever building they happen to enter. The hound will leave shortly before dawn, but it will return the next night to track down its quarry and once again attempt to get them follow. The Corpse Hound's nightly visits continue until the person it's following gives in (sometimes in response to threats from the neighbors) and follows it to the corpse that it wishes them to find. Once the body is recovered, the Corpse Hound goes back to whever hidden lair it inhabits.   Sometimes it's clear why a particular person was chosen by the Corpse Hound--they knew the victim or can benefit professionally from some aspect of the murder or have the skills necessary to defeat whoever or whatever was responsible for the corpse's current condition. In other cases, the reason for a particular person being chosen are not even remotely clear, but many people believe that being chosen by the ghost dog is a sign of good luck.
