Dive Implant
A Microchip of Destiny, touted as the only Miracle Technology that human minds have been able to understand enough to employ themselves. This technology is the exclusive domain of the Holy Empire of Man. The Dive Implant is a common technology in the Cir Archipelago. Those who are implanted are referred to as Divers, and gain access to the Grid. In effect it allows them to interact all technology that they come in contact with. From the lights in their domiciles, to secure terminals in military complexes, all forms of technology have some kind of Diving interface. A diver is able to touch objects connected to the grid, usually with their hands and which then allows their minds to process commands. The more surface area of the contact, the faster and more capable the processing is. As such, most technology made for such access has been developed with ports for a Diver to place hands inside.
Most technology has both standard and Dive controls established with it. For instance, a household will have keycards for the locks on a door, switches on the walls for lights, and buttons on the oven. At the same time, it will have a finger pad for a Diver to simply access all home functions, positioned in each room and any entrance to the home. Each of these pads will allow the Diver to access any of the other functions of the house, and to a more precise extent. Because not much processing power or finesse is needed in something like basic household appliances, the pad is sufficient. More specific technology will allow more and more access. Diver specific terminals will take full advantage of their processing and control.
Becoming a Diver isn't viable for most imperial citizens. As of the Era of Divinity 0125, only 20% of the population are Divers. This is because not all of humanity have minds capable of adapting to the implant. It puts significant stress on the human mind to be able to Dive, and even among those who can manage to utilize the implant there is a general cutoff. Only those capable of utilizing the implant to 10% efficiency are considered to be true Divers. While others can still handle basic technology, they lack the ability to properly Dive into technology.
A select few imperial citizens have shown a unique affinity with the implant, being able to access over 80% of their implant. These are considered to be High Divers, and are a special class of Human within the empire. Even among the Divers, a mere handful are capable of ever approaching these feats, but their abilities alter all life within the known world. It is through them that the imperial war machine is able to maintain such an indisputable hold on all humanity. It is the power that allowed the Mystic Crusade to come to a close, allowing the first time of relative peace in the Era of Divinity.
