Aubrey Wilson begins her college education at Harvard University.

Having moved to the dorms only a week before, and now without any familial support or even friends, Aubrey begins her higher education. She has two year's worth of undergrad credits from dual-enrollment courses in her home state of West Virginia, but has to retake a few courses because the curriculum are different. It's here that she meets Derek Evanson, a gay black man who shares her ideals and distrust of the US government, military, and police forces. However, he is a theater major, not a pre-law major, but they try to find time to hang out whenever they can.
