Casellis Cures (Kah-cell-eez Kyurez)

In the small vineyard town of Cresello, there are no doctors or healers, save for the occasional mercenary. The town's only priest has not received the spark of divine magic. In response, Camelia Caselli has opened up a small apothecary shop known as Caselli's Cures.

Purpose / Function

The Apothecary's shop sells herbs, poultices, and other medicines to the citizens of Cresello. Camelia specializes in alchemical knowledge that allows for creating infusions and extracts that can duplicate some of the lesser divine spells.

Sensory & Appearance

The storefront is small and crowded, with a number of fragrances competing for dominance. Dried herbs, flowers, various molds, and synthetic chemicals all mingle to create a very unique odor that can cause the eyes to sting and the nose to clear.

Alterations

In 1592, Camelia added an infirmary wing to the apothecary, allowing her to treat more severe injuries and maladies, rather than simply dispensing materials or tinctures. While the infirmary goes unused for most of the year, it sees increased activity after the harvest season and through the winter months.

Architecture

Like most of the town, the apothecary is built of whitewashed brick and plaster with clay tile roofing. Standing two stories with a basement, the ground floor holds Camelia's small and fragrant shopfront, as well as her laboratory and workspace and the aforementioned infirmary.   The second floor of the building holds Camelia's private quarters, bath, and a small galley-style kitchen.   The basement of the building is primarily a root cellar that holds various tubers, root vegetables, and other supplies. A sturdy iron door in the north wall, set with a well-made internal locking mechanism, leads to a stone room that contains a library and a large chest holding Camelia's extensive wealth.

History

Camelia Caselli was an adventurer who returned home to Cresello after her retirement. She saw the needs of the community were being underserved, having to rely on either traveling priests or doctors or paying exorbitant fees that were charged by the mercenaries hired to help protect the vineyards and the town.   She decided to address this concern by building up her apothecary. It started small, with just a storefront, a workspace, and a root cellar, but over time she added her living quarters and the infirmary. Her skill with alchemy and anatomy has made her a welcome member of the community.
