The Guild of Fethir

"From now on, and until you decide to move out on your own, this is your new home. As for that bastard, he's never gonna find you here, alright? You're safe, Melwyn."
-Makhlem talking to Melwyn
The Guild of Fethir is one of several major mercenary guilds that operate within the borders of the Kavasian Empire as well as in territories beyond it. Both Melwyn and Omaren are members of this guild, either as squires, or as official members.

Structure

The Guild of Fethir is a large organisation composed of numerous different chapters. While the guild is headquarted in the City of Kus'Qari, there are 11 other chapters present throughout Arros, and 2 in Enaskia.

In Arros, the largest ones outside of Kus'Qari are located in Larasor, Hersa and Aleida, while smaller chapters can be found in many other cities and towns in central and eastern Arros. In Enaskia, the cities of Laenos and Khron host small, but nonetheless very important chapters for the guild, as they are its only presence across the Narrow Sea.

Each chapter is ruled by a local headmaster, who answers to the Guild master, which is also the headmaster for the Kus'Qari's chapter. All headmasters are elected for 5 years by a unanimous vote from the local members. The number of members per chapter varies a lot, but it typicaly hovers around 100 people. Kus'Qari, being the headquarters, has the most registered members, at almost five times that amount. Thankfully, all of them usualy arent all there at the same time. In constrast, smaller chapters, like the ones in Khron or Syracsa, may only have a 1 or 2 dozen registered member or less.

Most of these members are clanless Shapeshifters, thanks to the nature and goal of the Guild, but the larger chapters also have many Elemental Mages or other types of Soulbound Mages populating their ranks.

Culture

Members come from many different backgrounds, and from vastly different cultures across Arros. However, having been rescued and/or recruited by the guild from dire circumstances, the members are very loyal to it, and are known to follow a strict code of morals and conduct, which was passed down since the guild's founding. Through this code, they train hard in order to defend and avenge themselves or their loved ones. Most of the guild members follow the Choranian, while a small minority, mostly members from southern Arros, follow Solianism.

Public Agenda

The Guild of Fethir was founded with the goal to protect the shapeshifter population of Arros from harm caused to them by the Esnian and Carathengian Empires, who mistreated them in various ways. The Esnian empire was abducting young shapeshifter to raise them as Calexi, while the Carathengians hosted shapeshifter death matches in their capital.

Despite both of these empires are long gone by now, and the shapeshifter population has never truly been safer in Arros, many problems persist, such as localized abuse, forced labour, and outright slavery. Therefore, in the eyes of the Guildmaster, and it's thousands of members, they must remain to fix them and put a stop to shapeshifter abuse across Arros.

Assets

Troops

Officialy, the guild of Fethir numbers roughly 5000 members, dispersed throughout central and north-eastern Arros. The majority of these members, who are mostly Shapeshifters, have basic training in various combat styles and martial arts, and many have military experience with various countries, or from their clans. Still, the guild's most important asset now and since it was founded remains diplomacy. A vast and robust network of alliances exists between them and many high profile Shapeshifter Clans as well as other guilds on the continents, who they could call upon for help, boosting their number of troops.

Territory and Influence

Like many others, the guild of Fethir is headquarted in Kus'Qari, the capital of the Kavasian Empire. However, it also has numerous chapters throughout the Arrosian continent, which enables it to have some sizable regional influence, most notably in the kavasian Empire, the Kingdom of Heoria and the Kingdom of Alvaros, but it also extends further, from the Kingdom of Naurcia to Kingdom of Paxolia and even eastern Enaskia.

In particular, this influence is very strong with the Shapeshifter Clans or communities of these regions, who often ally with them for various operations, or even for wars. Many shapeshifter clans in Heoria have openly ally the guild against the interest of the kingdom in the past, which had caused some tensions, but these were resolved at the time.

Equipement

Guild members aren't obligated to wear any special equipement per say, although it is a custumary tradition for them to wear blue garments on missions, which is also the primary colour of their emblem. While on missions, these mercenaries are equiped in much the same way a regular mercenary would be. The guild helps pay for the basic equipement, such as light armour and a few blades, maybe even a sword. However, members must earn money from missions to be able to buy better equipement, or to replace it. Better equipement can be bought in many cities at a discount price thanks to agreements with the guild and various armour smiths and weapons smiths in cities where chapters are present.

History

Origins

The guild was founded in the year 86 bc, in the now ruined city of Samerin, the capital of what used to be the Kingdom of Eglazia. It was formed by a group of shapeshifter slaves who had escaped north from the Carathengian empire. The leader of the group, a Coyote shifter named Fethir Barani sacrificed himself to allow his friends to escape. His friends decided to forms a guild that would protect their kind from the treatement they had endured in Carathenga, and to honour their friend's sacrifice, they named it after him. The guild would exclusively recruit shapeshifters that were escaping misstreatments and who shared their wish for a better life for their kind.

A humble start

In the waning years of the Second Age, the guild would grow considerably, from the 5 original members in 86 bc, to more than 50 by 70 bc. The guild would open a second chapter in the year 71 bc, in the City of Hersa, and then Aleida, the capital of the kindgom of Alvaros 3 years later. Alvaros was against every kind of slavery, and was happy to help the Guild towards their goals of abolishing it. By the year 50 bc, the guild's membership had grown to almost 500 shapeshifters, most of whom being escapees from the Carathengian empire, and its Kavasian vassal.

Rapid Growth

In the war between the Esnian Empire. and the The Carathengian Empire that started in 37bc, the guild would side with the former, but would mostly operate within carathenga's Kavasian vassal, helping to forment a rebelion of the local population. After the city of Carathenga fell to the blight, and the Esnian Empire retreated from the region, Eglazia was flooded with refugies, and many of them were shapeshifters who later joined the guild, swelling their numbers to many thousands of members.

Battle against the Blight

Soon after, the inhabitants of Arros, whether they be humans or any kind of mage, were soon all in a fight for their survival as the war against The Blight broke out across the continent. Many guilds helped in the fight against the blighted, including the Guild of Fethir. The hero known as Eremir the Great would lead them, and many others to a large battle just outside the ruins of the city of Astal, resulting in a victory for the grand coallition. However, their home country of Eglazia, particularly its western side, was devastated. This included the capital city of Samerin, which forced them to move to the City of Kus'Qari.

Nearing Collapse

As the third age came around, and peace returned to the continent, the Guild of Fethir found itself in a rather precarious situation. The war effort had considerably reduced their ranks, and new recruitement opportunities were low, thanks to the large majority of shapeshifters in central Arros being either dead, or having moved to Rumalia or Eastern Arros, and joined local clans there.

In the year 17 Ac, it was decided to expand the applicant pool to all Shapeshifters, whether they were slaves or not, of if they had a clan or not. Despite this substantial change, the guild kept its goal of shapeshifter slave liberation across Arros. They also began to forge deeper relations and work with prominent clans, especialy in the kingdoms of Alvaros and Heoria.

A Second Wind

The plan worked, and the guild eventualy grew back to its former size by the year 200 Ac, and even beyond. Then, they would get a second wind when the Kavasian Empire banned slavery across their territory in the year 357 Ac. The guild was one of the few to get direct approval by the emperor to go after the slavers who refused to comply across its territory. This would swell their ranks yet again, as many liberated slaves decided to join them. Currently, the Guild of Fethir is among the top 10 largest guild in Arros, and the largest that is primarily made up of shifters.
