Raven Mardian is a Dragtonian commoner and the Second Councilor of the Royton Vasey city council. She is an intelligent woman. Raven is extremely knowledgeable in local politics and has a lot of sway in how the small town is ran and remaining independent in terms of its market economy. She is also a proud mother and grandmother, and a fifteen-year widow.

Raven is in surprisingly good physical condition for a woman of her age. She has no problems getting around, and has eaten well and taken care of her body for most of her life. She has the usual aches and pains of old age, with a particularly bad knee, but she covers this up to maintain her appearance of health and authority.

Raven has a thin, pale face with light green eyes, sitting deeply in their sockets. Her eyes perpetually have dark circles underneath them, from sleepless nights handling the town affairs. Her face is wrinkled, with lines around her eyes and her mouth. She has particularly prominent lines on her forehead, from decades of frowning in concentration.

Raven’s main identifying characteristics are the limp she sometimes walks with and a small tattoo on her wrist. She got the tattoo in remembrance of her son, who died in military service.

Raven walks with a limp on bad days. She says her knee aches when it rains, but the limp comes more often than the rain does.

Personal history
Raven was born in the year 3A-1150, making her 85 years old now. She was born in Royton Vasey, where she still resides to this day. She was born to a mining family and lost her father at a young age due to a mining accident. From that day on, she and her mother were forced to live for themselves, relying on the generosity of her grandparents until her brother came of age. Raven disliked being so helpless and disliked the way that she and her family were treated. She focused her efforts on her education, believing this the way to advance her position and make a more comfortable life for her and her family. Her brother began work in the mines when he was old enough, which caused her and her mother great anxiety. When she reached the age of 22, she had advanced as far in her education as she could, and her mother encouraged her to marry, to solidify her future. She was against this idea until she met Mark Hael. Mark was charming and steadfast, from a merchant’s family, and Raven fell for him quickly.
They married and had two children, Gregory and Jerry. When Gregory was 18, he enlisted in the army and died in the service. Raven mourned for him greatly and still misses him even all these years later. Jerry became a blacksmith and married, starting his own family. After she had her children, Raven decided that she would not give up her ambitions of improving the town and advancing her family’s position. At the age of 50, she ran for the position of the second councilor, and she has appointed the position. She is able to use her considerable intelligence in economic matters to keep the town independent, and is beloved and admired by the townsfolk. She suffered another loss in 3A-1210 when Mark passed away. It was a shock incident, and Raven went into deep mourning. She continues her work, however, although her grief has never really faded.

Raven has two great accomplishments. One is her family. She is exceedingly proud of her living son, Jerry, and was proud of her other son before he died. She is still proud that he wanted to serve. Her second accomplishment is being appointed to her political position. She believes that it is what she worked her entire life to do.

Raven has not failed at many things in her life. Her only source of shame is one that she turned into a motivation- her family’s treatment after her father’s death.

Raven grieves deeply for the loss of her husband and her son. She has never fully recovered from their deaths.

Not going so far as to commit acts of evil, of course- she has a very defined sense of evil- but she believes that sometimes to get to a place where you can do good, you may have to bend the rules a little bit.

One thing Raven cannot abide is a lack of work ethic. She has worked her whole life to get to where she is now, and cannot understand when someone isn’t willing to put in the work to improve their own lives.
