Haden Valen the First
General, High King
Haden Valen the First was born in the 470th year of the Elven Age at the height of the First Elven War. A more accurate time of his birth is unknown for this reason, though some rumors have placed his day of birth to sometime around the 17th of Apriles. Haden grew up in a slave camp just outside of the former city of Marvona. He saw firsthand what awaited those foolish enough to rebel against Elves. Haden even watched as his own parents were killed during one of the Elves purges when he was eleven.
Determined to place an end to the torment of his kin, Haden joined the Resistance to overthrow Elven rule on Arren. From the time of his fifteenth birthday, Haden saw nothing but intense fighting and death of many he held dear. By his mid-late twenties, the tide of war began to turn in the Resistance’s favor.
On summer’s eve in the year EA-497 the Resistance had taken control of the Elven fortress of Camlann. For the next two years, Haden’s forces laid siege to the Elves’ mainland capital of Raynável (Formally Reávona) in the Skywind Mountains. When it was clear that Raynável would not fall so easily, Haden considered a new tactic to starve out the Elves until they surrendered. It was not until Half-Dragon, Nilin Dahr’moor, brought a promising plan to sneak a small force through the Fortress City’s catacombs and take it from within. After the fall of the Elven capital of Raynável, Elven occupancy on Arren crumbled and from the ashes of the Elven Empire, rose the human Kingdom of Dragton and Haden was named as its first High King.
The first years in Haden’s rule were mostly restoring and maintaining the peace and order in the aftermath of the war. Too much for any one man could handle, so Haden formed the Knight’s Council in the 5th year of the First Age. The Knight’s Council’s members were all handpicked from among all of the top military leaders during the war. The first few years of Haden’s rule were tough with some former Elven soldiers raiding the newly formed cities. Anti-elf crimes were also on the rise until Haden passed the ‘Sanctuary Act’ which created a small community for elves within city borders.
By 1A-20, Haden began to search for his former flame, Dana, in a bid to rekindle their relationship. It wasn’t until ten years later that a note was slipped under Haden’s door about Dana’s location somewhere in the central woodland areas now call the White Forest. Upon investigating the area, Haden discovered hundreds of religious cultists and Dana tied to a wooden pole. Haden quickly mobilized his forces and fought the cultists for hours in a bid to save Dana. This later became known as the Battle of Snow-Wolf Pass. In the end Haden and his men were successful in defeating the cultists, but Dana still died. And she was not the only one perish that day. Haden also lost his own son, Haden the Second. When looking around, Haden found two young children Dana had mothered and he swore to watch over them in Dana’s name.
Over the next two years, with his only now died, Haden started to think about his successor. He spent many hours of many days deciding who would best be worthy enough to replace him as High King of Dragton. In the end, he decided that his second knight, Robert Tront, displayed the best qualities needed to lead the newly formed kingdom. However, Haden's first knight, Richard Pendragon, saw this as a betrayal. As Haden's best and most trusted knight, Richard thought that the throne should be his.
Late in the evening, as Haden was preparing for bed, he was interrupted by Richard who preceded to stab him over and over again. Haden died that night, assassinated by his closest best friend.
