Celestials
This is a catalog of all the deities you can worship and a brief history of what they have done. For the mechanics of gaining power through following these deities, go here.
Energy spent on spells, worship, and life spent from sacrifices help give the Celestials power
Sacrifices can be expensive or sentimental. They can also include
bribery rules in gurps for finding the value of an offering
The Primals
Before the Primals arrived, the world was an unrecognizable quagmire. The land was flat, barren, and dominated by dragons. Mortals and creatures were living a life of terror and violence. The Primals changed everything to make the world a more livable place for the mortals. (They ask their current followers to travel the world and attempt to keep it a more balanced world) EXPAND UPON THIS (the outsiders generally don't have a big enough impact on the world to engage the attention of the Primals)
After the dragons have since fallen from power, they have decided to leave the mortal realm to the mortals for the time being. They are more than a little offended by the Divines coming in after them and "civilizing" the land they created.
The Earth Shaper
The First Primal was the Earth Shaper. They created massive mountain ranges, large deserts, and many other difficult terrains in an attempt to physically separate the more powerful dragons from the larger groups of mortals.
The Frozen Depths
The next Primal was the The Frozen Depths. They worked with The Earth Shaper to make massive oceans as another barrier the dragons must cross. They also created large freshwater lakes for the mortals to live off and large rivers and streams to navigate by.
The Tempest
Some dragons were still able to fly through the peaceful skies. The Tempest created powerful storms and air currents to make their travel much more difficult.
The Eternal Flame
The mortals lacked the necessary power to repel the more formittable dragons from their now isolated areas. The Eternal Flame saw this and gave the mortals the power to cleanse these soon to be peaceful lands of the few dragons that still inhabited them.
The Untamed Wilds
The Untamed Wilds saw the other animals in the world as another weapon to use against the dragons. They empowered these creatures to have the strength to defend their territory from the dragons.
The Divines
The Divines are Celestials that use their influence to try and shape the mortal's world in a way they think would be best. In return, they only ask for their worship.
The Divines are fairly resentful of the Outsiders for the frivilous way they through their power around.
The Gala
The Gala had been watching this world go from constant torment and pain to a more peaceful world. The mortals were struggling to adapt to their new world of security. The Gala decided to teach the mortals to enjoy their new lives. She taught them the joys of festivities and the appreciation of life in general.
The Scribe
The Divine Scribe saw all this history unfolding and was ashamed to see all of this knowledge go to waste. He organized and protected a small group of mortals and taught them how to read and write. In return, they must keep records of all that happens in the world for future generations to see and learn from.
The Bastion
With the dragons mostly gone, some of the more aggressive settlements had not quite adapted to the new world yet. They were not able to either sustain themselves or just didn't know any other way of life, so they took to raiding the other mortal settlements. The Bastion saw this and he taught the peaceful cultures the best way to defend themselves from these raiders.
The Weaver
After the dragons were tamed, there was a lot of unused ambient magic. The Weaver decided to teach the mortals how they can use this mana to manipulate the world around them.
The Ferryman
When a mortal dies, they become a spirit. These spirits will wander the many realms looking for their new homes and purposes. Some spirits however are stuck where they die and cannot move on. The Ferryman taught his followers how to send the souls to their proper place and how to protect themselves from the violent spirits that wish them harm.
The Outsiders
Outsiders, like Celestials above, are powerful spirits and beings that reside in other realms. Unlike Celestials, they have not put as much time and energy into the mortal realm and don't generally ask any life changing decisions from their followers. This doesn't mean they are necessarily weaker, but they are not nearly as invested as the Celestials in mortal lives. Interactions with these Celestials tend to be more transactional in nature.
They dislike the Primals for their constant attempts at balancing what they disrupt.
The Invalid
There are a lot of bodies and diseases in the world. The Invalid seeks to exploit these resources in order to "get what he needs".
The Traveler
There are lots of rare and valuable things that can be found around the world and in other realms. The Traveler is able to "soften" the barriers that travel between them difficult.
The Veil
Precious things are usually locked up tight and defended valiantly. The Veil is there to teach mortals the best ways to get around the best guards and open the toughest locks.
The Chaotic
Some beings from the other realms like to watch the mortal realm for their own amusement. Sometimes, the mortal realm is just a bit too bland and boring for them, so they give power to individuals who just want to "spice things up" in the world and cause all kinds of chaos. The Chaotic likes to use his vast resources only to mess with mortals who have gotten too comfortable.
The Trials of Man
The last diety to get involved was The Trials of Man. She saw all of these gods and spirits mettling in the mortal's lives. She thought that they could now live on their own. The mortals didn't need the help of any gods or magics, so she taught her followers to defend themselves from these "unatural" forces and how to tap into the mortal's inner power that only a few in the past had managed to unlock.
