The Orange or Exploration Army

CHG: the LIR is spooky.

Other CHG: yeah.

CHG: we can't expand out territory into them without unlocking the infinite waves mode and eventually being worn down and destroyed.

Other CHG: that's right.

CHG: we don't really need to expand though, since we can build planets around existing suns...

Other CHG: I guess so...

CHG: but there could be space buddies in the opposite direction to the LIR.

Other CHG: and hidden technology.

CHG: and exotic matter.

Other CHG: and something to fall back on if the LIR decides to REALLY hit us... especially since we don't know how many other fronts they're fighting on and if they were to win on lots of other fronts and be able to direct more attention to us...

CHG: wow, expanding sure does sound like a good idea.

Other CHG: plus there's lots of non-CHG human nations that have been set up by private companies, outlaws and ideological madmen out that way anyway. They've terraformed quite a few worlds for us.

CHG: yeah but they did it the stupid way where the air is barely breathable and they need to genetically modify themselves to thrive and me no likey genetic modification for civilian purposes.

Other CHG: we could remove the GMOs' rights and stop the others from GMing, then properly terraform and colonize their worlds.

CHG: Yeah. But I reckon we should go, like, WAY further than just the human outlands. I meant it when I talked about finding space buddies and exotic matter.

Other CHG: So it's conquest, exploration and colonization all in one?

CHG: Yep. It'll need an entire army, as well as tonnes of exploratory personnel.

Other CHG: Wanna make a new army for it?

CHG: Yeah. Which colours aren't taken?

Other CHG: we disbanded the Orange Army 43 years ago because its general attempted to seize control of the Terra System

CHG: Well it's un-disbanding time then, isn't it?

Composition

Manpower

50,000 actual soldiers, 100,000 militia-troops from the Defense Force, 750,000 non-combat personnel and 500,000 outdated super-soldiers ("well Master Chief you've sure done us all a service but we've figured out how to make even cooler Spartans so we're sticking you in this back-end project"). 905,000 humans in total. But it doesn't stop there: 30,000 combat bots, 300,000 non-combat bots that could potentially be used for combat if one is inventive enough and 10,000 non-human intelligent species. Every ship also gets its own cat, courtesy of Athena 6's local government donating them in the midst of a cat overpopulation problem.

Equipment

Pretty back-water stuff in regards to everything except the mobility of their ships and their ability to survey celestial bodies. Okay so it's just that all their ships are good for is running away and most of their gear sucks. This is so that aliens cannot steal the tech for themselves and use it against the CHG.

Weaponry

Yeh not that great chief.

Vehicles

I guess the ships count as vehicles and are already discussed. They've also got orbital submarines, rovers, drones and all sorts of other goodies.

Structure

Ship commander -> the soldiers -> the defense force troops -> the civilians. Supersoldiers are at the top of command on any ship they're on, but they tend to move a lot between ships to deal with emergencies.

Tactics

*Sees enemy* "RETREAT"

Enemy: Darnit! Right when I wanted to negotiate!

Training

Everyone's already trained as parts of other organisations when brought on. A few quick briefings and checkups are all that are done. Once the army was established they went through the usual training but with bonuses for the sheer unpredictability of the Galactic West.

Logistics

Logistical Support

Their ships operate like little mobile biospheres so food, energy, newly made goods (just fling the right elements into a 3D printer) and so on are no problem. They can refuel with plasma from stars, solar energy, fission of nuclear material from planets or even substances similar to fossil fuels.

Auxilia

None.

Upkeep

The fleets have to be self-sustaining, creating ports with portals that can only be operational for short periods of time at a time as they move. They collect minerals for repairs and whatnot from the planets they find.

Recruitment

Those who are noted as wanting to be in the Orange Army have a much higher chance of being in the Orange Army to the point where literally everyone in the Orange Army chose to be there... except the GMOs, robots and aliens.

History

CHG want more turf makes Explorers for more turf Explorers need more peeps to cover more turf the CHG gives them more peeps to get more turf they encounter like 5 intelligent species on this turf which have scavenged Old One Tech then they find the Old Ones and then there's bad joojoo.

Historical loyalties

Loyal to the CHG but not necessarily obedient and often self-serving. Hording of artefacts to sell on the black market rather than handing them into the CHG is common.
