Athneron

Athneron is the personification of creation, and he cares not what his followers use this power for. He is as happy if they create a weapon as he is if they create a work of art. He cares not for the application nor form of creation, only that his followers create, and continue to do so. When he appears to the mortals, he often appears as an indistinct humanoid form glowing bightly with a golden light that radiates out from golden skin. Other times, he will look like a ball of golden light with no source, blinding and powerful.   Often, after a manifestation of Athneron, there is some creation left behind, the size of which implies the significance of his visit. Sometimes it is as small and intricate as a silver jewelry chain, and other times as large and rugged as a mountain.   Athneron is also one of the two most powerful gods in this world. Athneron is not simply a powerful god, he is one of the first two, a primal force with an intellect. The other, Norentha, is his opposite; destruction incarnate. The two of them have been at odds since the beginning of the world as their powers are diametrically opposed.

Athneron's Influence

The entire world is a show of the Athneron's influence, as he created all of it. Many myths and stories tell of how this god created the world piece by piece, starting with the six Major gods.   Creators of all stripes occasionally pray to the god, from artists to artificers to cooks, many look to Athneron for inspiration. Finding a true devout of this god is rare, however.   The truly devout of Athneron may be few, but they are powerful. These are people who care deeply about creating, about seeing their visions take true form. These are not everyday craftsmen or artists, these are the deeply devoted, the finest craftsmen in the realm.   Athneron isn't done with the world, and is constantly adding to the world. Larger projects require more power, planning, and inspiration, however, so these projects can take a long time to come to fruition. Some of these plans involve adding landmasses, and others create new life. His creations are always continuing to add to the world in new and unexpected ways.

Athneron's Goals

Athneron is not particularly secretive about his goals. He cares only for the act of creation, and will go to nearly any lengths to see it happen. While it is obvious what he wants to do, his means and methods are usually held behind a screen of mystery, even after his next work is revealed. The reveals, however, are something Athneron likes to draw attention to. He rarely drops in a new creation to the world without fanfare. When he does, it becomes a creation of legend, searched for, sometimes for millenia. Several of them have been lost to time.   It is possible that the Overgod has some secret goals beyond the creation of more matter; if this is true, it would be very dangerous to get in his way, given how well he protects them.

Divine Relationships

Few of the other gods are worth Athneron's attention, and only Norentha has earned the full strength of his enmity. The two have fought for dominance over the years, but neither have started a war yet. Neither have committed all of their resources to combat the other, but they are both starting to ramp up their forces.   Athneron is furious at the betrayal he faced from Nekrutan, Cheznerix, and Shaold. They chose to defend everything he stood against. That betrayal has led to him disavowing all three, and their races. Few elves, tritons, or devnar are able to redeem themselves enough in his eyes to earn his favor, but he cherishes the ones he is able to rip away from his enemies.   The three gods that stood with him, however, he trusts completely. He trusts that they will back his plays when war finally breaks out between him and Norentha. They will be the leaders of his armies when the day comes for battle.   Athneron could not care less for any of the other gods. They are below his notice, and they are only occasionally useful as pawns. While he is aware that they exist in an abstract sense, their power is nowhere near the levels they would need to be to be a threat to him.

Worshipping Athneron

Many people around Chenravo pay homage to Athneron through their creations, wither crediting him in some fashion, or dedicating the piece to him. The first month of the year is Athnerix, in honor of the first god. During this month, many cities hold festivals where they unveil the masterpieces that creators have completed. This festival is often the unveiling for many projects, but a precious few impressive works are invited back. And in each of these festivals, there is a centerpiece: the single best creation to be shown off in that city. Each of these pieces show the dedication and talent of their creators.

Aspects of Athneron

The gods often represent more than one facet. The gods facets are defined by their worshippers, so that the gods suit the needs of the people. No aspect is ever gone, however, and any facet that was created in the past still lurks somewhere in the god's personality, waiting for when it is needed again, or perhaps plotting a situation that might make it relevant once more.   Athneron is one of two exceptions to the rule of aspects. He has only one, and it seems that his divine being is immutable. Despite many attempts over the years by various clergy members of Athneron to grant him more aspects, they have failed each time. Perhaps it is because he is an Overgod, or maybe there is another reason.

Aspect of Creation

The Aspect of Creation is Athneron's sole aspect. This Aspect is interested in creating more of the world, expanding borders and adding new life to the ecosystems in place. It is willing to do whatever is necessary to accomplish its goals. No cost is too high to continue his grand masterpiece.
