Olia Conquest

The Torga imperials analyzed and approached the Olia via the Grand Elector and the Olian weakness for base trade. They purchased rights to build a trading outpost and build it they did. Built grand homes and businesses with Arcane crystal lights to illuminate the streets at night and in gloom. An excellent city it was that they built at Migny. Extravagant goods to tempt and lure in Olia. The Torga made deals with this or that house for sweet trade deals in exchange for placing trading post "keeps". The friendly houses and Jarls were plied with riches and pushed to support a Grand Elector friendly to Torga interests. In 599 IMP after two years of stealthy build up, the Empire gave the Grand Elector and the states of Skaag in the west, central Jarga and eastern Terhom the ultimatum of becoming Imperial citizens or face conquest. Those who agreed would get favored treatment with a low tribute annually and retain local rule. Those who fought would face heavy taxes and Imperial governance. Only 30% of houses bent to the Imperial demands and recognized Imperial rule. The other 70% fought. They wrongly supposed it would take weeks for imperial forces to arrive over Sea, never suspecting that Legion forces had been imported and disguised as merchants and haulers of goods and that still more arrived via Portals in Migny, Solles, Loutarvoy, Borrezieville and Drannes. The war was fought for two years. Imperial forces captured the southern coastal regions in the first year and skirmishes were fought over the winter when the Olia had advantage. The winter was particularly harsh for the Imperial forces, while the Olians seemed to have good weather and easy travel. The Olia also used Druidic magics to bring fearsome demonbeasts that were part man and part monster to the war. Werebeasts as well fought the imperials and Olia fighters would wear wolf, bear and other animal hides to mimic them and attempt to break the will of the Legionaires. Imperial Mages smashed Olian magical opposition in the year 2 campaign. The second year saw imperial forces Take Drannes and the Grand Elector and inland territories. In 601 a Peace Concorde was agreed to and voted by the Grand Council in exile. The Far west Skaag was a free state with it's capital in Grimsund, facing the pirates of the Teeth and the threats of the The Harrowland. Far eastern Terhom, from Adonvillons and Poillere to Aurneuflans at the foot of the Icehorn Mountains, likewise became free states down to Enlintyr and Athanas in the south. Wild tribes of nomad Olia continued outside of Imperial concern in the far north.   The Imperials consider Olians primitive pagans who ape civilized religion, pay scant heed to the natural strata of society and engage in undignified coarse trading.  Golam and Torga people see the Olia people's thirst for trade and finance and the Olia Gifting Ritual as base and demeaning.  Olian religion is likewise seen as primitive verses the truth of the Holy Church and The Order of Heaven.  Thus Olian nobles have lower status versus nobles of other ethnicities in the Empire.

Probably would have turned out better for the Olians if the didn't let the Torga infiltrate. A Trojan horse in a way.
