M2 Palace District of Martelain

by Aaron Smalley
It should be obvious as to why this district is named "Palace District", as the former Martelain Royal families Palace has stood on the small hill that the gate to the city was built in front of so that the palace would overlook the gate to the north-east as well as the channel to the west. It is one of the tallest buildings in the Channel Cities, with each of its two cortyards being higher than the space around it and the towers of the palace rising nearly as high as the Cathedral that dominates the E6 District of Gorled that is the home to the Church of the All Father, with only the D6-3 High Tower of Magic being the only structure in the entire Channel Cities region that stands noticeably taller than the palace.   Of course now the palace is controlled by the Northern Empire and serves as their military outpost in the former Martelain lands as well as the home to their "puppet governor".   Buildings marked with an "e" are empty/deserted/vacant (and usually in a state of disrepair). While those that are marked with an "h" are homes/houses, or in many cases are a building that is made up of several small apartments/tenaments that are eitehr rented out to those who can not afford to purchase a building in which to live or are owned by those who also own local businesses and provide these apartments/tenaments to those who work for them (as part of their "pay" for their work).   Please note that if the map/image of this district is opened (in a new window or tab) it will show at a higher resolution on most computer systems and will be easier to read, if needed.   The population of this district is roughly 2,200 residents and another 2,500 residing within the Martelain Palace (about 2,000 of which are Northern Empire soldiers, and the remaining being governmental postions and support staff (i.e. servants)).
