Canimer

The canimer is to be found in the Sea of Strange Lands, where it lives in small family groups but is most widely known from the domesticated population used by the fishermen based in the Horn.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Growing up to twice the length of a man, the wild canimer rarely exceeds said man's weight. They are typically slender with large heads and a long neck, though some attempts at selective breeding in the fisheries around the Horn have given some packs a significantly different appearance.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

It is common across the Sea of Strange Lands and occasionally found in the Torren Sea, but if you wish to see them then the coasts of the Horn are the place to go for here they have been domesticated by fishermen and are used in the hunting the Sembo . Occasional sightings of them have been reported in the seas between Tarusia and Marivar but these are generally believed to be migratory or transient rather than a permanent population.

Average Intelligence

As individuals they show limited intelligence but collectively they demonstrate advanced team working and the ability to co-ordinate their actions that gives them a reputation for intelligence that is probably more then their due.

Conservation Status

Found in the wild in small groups across the Sea of Strange Lands the canimer is a stable, surviving , regional species.

Fishing with Canimer

Many of the fishing communities on the coast of the Horn maintain packs of Canimer which they have tamed and use in their fishing. Through hand rearing of newly born animals they are tamed and bonded to the fisherman and through the use of a collar their ability to eat theur catch is limited until the fisherman feels they have earned it.
