Nan Tarim

On the eastern Blood Coast of Chaha Ris stands the city of Nan Tarim, whose dark-walled inner courts rise above the rest of the city on the plains beneath. Nan Tarim is ruled by Keledra the Undying a queen who is said to be more than a century old despite her youthful appearance. She is rarely seen outside the inner courts of the city, and travels forth when she does inside a heavily curtained palanquin ringed by her loyal guards.     Nan Tarim is a trading port, though neither so large or prosperous as Telek Tarim , and no foreigners no matter how wealthy are permitted within the walls of the inner court. Instead there is a Strangers Quarter at the south of the city where they may reside and indulge themselves in recreation during their stay in the city.   To picture Nan Tarim picture a wary population talking in whispers whenever the black-masked Ravenguard of Keledra pass by. Picture a dark-walled citadel on a hill above the narrow streets. Imagine tales of dark sorcery and forbidden gods, and the cries of those who are left behind grieving for those who have vanished into the night never to be seen again.

Notes

Taverns don't have names, just descriptions - try The Tavern on the Moon Canal, or the Pleasure House of the Black Star, or Inn on the Corner.   You may find beer for the foreigners but more common beverages include Honey Wine, Lotus Syrup (a narcotic), Kesian Blue (a deep purple wine), and White Bane (a clear stimulant spirit).   Street food includes lamb, roasted peppers, squash, and honeyed locusts.   Petty criminals are branded on the forehead and shunned/feared as a result. Beware of them. Usually with a monograph of the noble family whose guards administered the justice.   Local coins are copper pennies stamped with the Hawk or the Spider, or larger silver coins bearing Queen Keledra's profile on one side and wings on the other. Foreign currency not accepted outside the merchant's quarter. Illegal touts will exchange it for about 50% value.   The guards - raven helmed bravos don't interfere much in the merchant's quarter except to turn up and menace bribes out of people.
