Ashton's father, Lord Eskil Swan, meet Ashton's mother early in life. Kasumi Yamamoto was a woman with magic and was given the honor of being the Lord's bodyguard. After a while, they fell in love.
Shortly after Ashton was born, Kasumi disappeared because of a fight. Eskil could not marry her, because marriage was supposed to be a union, a confirmation of an alliance. But Ashton gained "True son" from his father simply because Kasumi left. Kasumi left Ashton too.
Ashton was later found with magic and sent with the gatherers to the Tower of Maigal, were he has been training since then.
