Volsung Pantheon

The Volsungr are an ancient people from the extreme northwest of the continent of Thestra. Their homelands, centered around the Kingdom of Torness, are rugged and unforgiving. Icy winds from the northern sea whistle up the rocky fjords, hardy elk and caribou haunt the upland meadows and dark pinewood forests huddle in secluded glades.

A rugged land begets a rugged folk, and a rugged folk worship rugged gods. Such are the Volsungr, and such is their pantheon. The gods of the Volsungr tend to be ancient, elemental and pretty distant. People tend not to expect direct and personal intervention, but rather a general benefit, if not in this life, at least in the next one.

Mythology & Lore

In the minds of the Volsungr, Pharasma is recognized as a god, but one to be shunned by every right-thinking person. She is seen as the Ravenous One, the ignominy of the grave, the maw of oblivion. Those who fall to her wiles become forgotten, their deeds of no regard. That said, they do believe the myths of Sarenrae, but tend to focus their worship on her children.   Desna, the god of night, rules the wit and the wisdom and secrets of women. She teaches men tactics and secret ways to protect the home, and is seen by many as the arbiter of the Fates.
