Nemstria Dresk

Demographics

Nemstria has a diverse range of inhabitants. From humanoid races like humans and elves over Que'lim to the Maraa, almost every race is represented in some way or another. The wealth distribution between nobles and common folk is insanely huge. Despite this big difference, the merchants and farmers earn enough money to live.

Government

Nemstria is run by the governor, the mayor and a council of representatives, consisting of the most powerful merchants, the church, the commanders of the military and the nobles. For a new law to be implemented, at least 85% of the council has to agree. With a representative percentage of 26.1%, the governor is able to deny a law single handedly. The inhabitants of Nemstria pay taxes through tax collectors to the governor, who in turn hands that money over to the king of Zvaaraes.

Defences

Nemstria is guarded by around 40 guards constantly patrolling the streets on foot. additionally, the town is surrounded by 12 meter tall walls decked out with lookout towers placed in regular intervals. Another 20 guards are stationed there to keep nightwatch and patrol during the day. The common guards are trained in either archery or different types of blade weapons, whereas the magically gifted ones train in various types of attacking, defending or supporting magic. The entry into the city is also heavily guarded by 5-10 guards at all times, ensuring safety against invaders and raiders.

Industry & Trade

While ores can be obtained in the mines of Nemstria, the stone needed for the current number of newly built buildings can not. As a solution, the governor decided to import the majority of bricks and stones used in current building projects. Despite the big cost of importing huge amounts of goods, the town is in the middle of flourishing in the farmers and trading department. The central market brings in tremendous amounts of money every day from taxation and the exported products, like weapons, different types of ores and wood. Nemstria tries to refrain from importing a lot of premade items and weaponry, and instead opts for buying material to manufacture goods themselves. This saves the town a lot of money annually that they instead invest in better infrastructure.

Infrastructure

Nemstrias outskirts are home to some crop fields and farms, protected by a couple watchtowers. Inside the city walls are different temples and shrines, various blocks full of houses, a red light district and a central market. The market has numerous roads branching off in different directions, and the streets are always busy. Nemstria also built a military section where the knights and guards are trained. A shipyard leading into the Tanrel Stream connects the town with other settlements for sea trading.

Assets

Nemstria is filled with general goods stores, magic stores, smiths, food merchants, inns, taverns, brothels, etc. The shrines in the religious district, not far from the central market, are eight in number, each covering one god respectively. A temple in the north-eastern side of the shrines functions as an academy for priests and other religious figures and hosts big events. Nemstria also has a school system for magic and non magic users. The military units have barracks for training and housing soldiers.

Guilds and Factions

The Adventurers Guild
One of Nemstrias taverns, the Adventurers Jug, has been comissioned by the Falaelian Barony to function as a hub for adventurers of all types. Representatives of the Zvaarian Adventurers Guild are stationed here and assign quests, host tournmanets, handle applications and much more.
The Church
The church, named the Nemstrian Spiritus is another driving force in this community, handling all sorts of religious events and contributing money towards new religious buildings. The church also offers magical users to become adventurers in the name of the gods, offering them a place in their magical institution, located in a side building next to the Nemstrias Holy Sanctuary.
Military Forces
The Sergeants and their Lieutenant are working for the military system in Nemstria and are handling almost all the towns forces, thus having a lot of political power. They get a lot of funding and have a military academy for non-magic users and magical inhabitants alike, valuing quantity over quality. Every willing soul will receive additional training fit for their profession.
The Market
The driving force of the market are The Ysch'tyx. This family mostly sets the universal prices of Nemstria. Like any professional merchants, they value trust over everything. One can be hired as a local trader in the name of the Ysch'tyx to sell their goods, receiving a negotiable percentage of the earned money.

Tourism

One way Nemstria could increase their wealth would be in improving sightseeing and tourism experiences. They barely have any abstract buildings or beautiful scenery. No hiking roads, mountains to climb or dungeons to explore. Travellers arriving in Nemstria seek coin instead of adventures. Inns still offer residence towards the many traders passing through.

Architecture

Houses in Nemstria are built out of wooden frames and bricks of stone. The houses are mostly colored in a orange/darkyellow paint, but some inhabitants along the central market color their houses differently to fit the friendly and uplifting vibe. The windows are made of mostly clear glass and the doors of homes vary, depending on the type of building.   Stores for weaponry or food often have merchants working in- and outside. Where the food merchants often very clearly distinct the inside and outside by door, the smiths and weapon shops often don't even have a door, rather they have both an inside, and outside portion of a room. Some stores have decorations hanging from the door arch to and some only work from the inside.   The shrines located in Nemstria are built of colored marble, gold and other valuables, characterised depending on their respective god. The Nemstrias Holy Sanctuary, built of gold, silver and polished marble, gives off a prestigious vibe. Right above the enormous main entrance door, decorated with gemstone-like ores, is a window full of color, showing an image of various characters looking into the distance. They almost look like they're watching over Nemstria.   The military district on the other hand is built to last. Sturdy, thick stone walls, a metal door and almost no windows cover the main building. Wood has been used mainly on the inside to hold the weight of the roof and cover the walls. There are multiple smaller branches connected to the main building, all similarly designed. In the heart of the facility lies the training grounds, for non magic users. The magical troops (even if only a few) practice and perfect their craft in the upper floor of the institution.

Geography

Nemstria Dresk is located fairly near the eastern seashore. The rolling hills it is built in are full of flora and fauna, giving the souls living here a daily refreshing feeling. The river, the inhabitants call Tanrel Stream is a crucial part of why the town was able to grow to the point it already did.

Natural Resources

Nemtria Dresk is a town of ressources. From a travellers perspective, the settlement has everything in stock an average person could want. From a political and business perspetive, Nemstria itself is short on food. Basic ingredients have to be imported from the surrounding villages, specially designed to grow and breed. Ores and minerals on the other hand are no issue, the mines on the edge of the town walls, combined with the imported goods from smaller settlements offer more than enough material. There is plenty of water, wood and stone to harvest from the surrounding vicinity.
