Qualifications
Mayors can have a few different upbringings. They can come up from an aristocratic family, claiming the lands, as their own through a barons/baronesses recommendations. One could also aspire to be a mayor, climbing the military ranks, achieving great deeds in battle and get a town as a reward from a higher rank. The only real qualification one needs is a good word from a baron and thus, his peoples.
Requirements
Although there are no discrete requirements, a baron will most likely choose a mayor with either experience or political/religious background to strengthen his or her domain. Adding to that, a mayor will almost certainly only be elected as one, if he/her shows a certain level of maturity.
Appointment
Under normal cirumstances, a new mayor election in a town brings a big festival with it. The ceremony consists of a big market set up in front of the mayors residence. Musicians, entertainers, merchants and visitors bring the show to life as a high priest puts a noble robe and a necklace on the newly elected mayor. Attertive at such a festival is the family of the crowned, a hgih priest or a bishop, the baron/baroness of the domain, the head of the military and other important figures.
Responsibilities
Mayors manage the political affairs and decisions of a town. They oversee taxes, give out orders for Governors, enact laws and many more. A council, consisting of a head priest, an influential merchant and various people of power within guilds helps the Mayor during his reign.

Mayors, both female and male, get a robe, displaying their regions banner, often paired with some kind of accessory. The piece of jewellery will differ depending on the region, wealth, significance and culture of the town. The clothes bestowed upon the Mayor have to be worn during most ceremonies.
