A new community outlook
The Church of Very Good Cheer is not really a church -- not any more, at least. These days it's a small and lively pub, packed full of local residents nearly every single night, with jaunty music and raised joyous voices ringing out from its walls. It's not the largest pub establishment in
Verdant Springs, nor is it the most popular, but it holds a special place in the hearts of those living in
Abrador's capital city. Historically, this settlement did not have the closest relationship with their patron
God-husk Farad. Churches dedicated to worshiping the former god of Forging and Passion were few and far between; however this changed during the last hundred years when a resurgence of faith occurred.
This structure was once known as the Verdant Church of Passion and Hope, and it had space for nearly 300 people inside, if they were willing to be uncomfortable. It's built of river stones sourced locally, mortar derived from the banks of the same waterways, and wood timbers from the old-growth oak forest that once stood on the surrounding hills. While it had space for hundreds of people, the locals worshiping Farad never reached the same fervor that other God-husks had -- most times, the number of occupants rarely hit 50. Once the resurgence of faith occurred, numbers skyrocketed, and then suddenly this small and humble church was no longer big enough. A new site was selected, a new grand church was constructed, and this small structure was left empty for a time.
The building was eventually taken over by a local merchant; she petitioned the city government to allow her to claim the land, under the condition that she renovates and updates the building to modern conditions, and create a space to improve public life. Her idea was to renovate it into a lively space, somewhere for locals to share and enjoy together. Thus the idea of turning it into a pub was born. A long list of renovations and modifications suddenly began to grow: leaks needed fixing, entry ways needed covering, and a second floor was desperately wanted to provide more seating area, among other things. People loved the update, and it soon became a local favourite, and an icon of community growth.
This is such a cute little piece of worldbuilding, I'd love to visit the church and ask the staff aaaaall about the history of the place :D
Thank you!! The staff would absolutely love to talk allll about it, they love their little church pub!
