Castle Winter
"Victoria can you come with me?" Arthur Winter asked.
-"Yes dad." @Victoria managed to say around the last remains of her lunch. Her father was always such a fast eater.
"We're going up the north tower."
-"All the way? Dad you know I don't like it that high."
"I know, but I have to show you something."
"Stop pressing yourself against the wall, these stones have been holding up this merlons here for two hunderd years, they won't fall over because you lean against them."
-"I don't like it."
"Suck it up Vicky, I'm leaving you in charge. Now look, over the past years I've been altering the gardens around the castle, do you see how the ponds are shaped. Now imagine if you extend those lines. It's the same on the otherside. What do you see?"
-"A pentagram?"
"Exactly. Back to the study."
-"For two hunderd years this castle repelled every attack, and a Winter ruled this place. But warfare has changed. Cannons have replaced trebuchets. And their shot can bring down the castle walls if it ever comes to that. I want you to change the castle's defences. Adding another layer of masonry won't do the trick. We need earth works. I've been preparing this, as you saw from the tower, the ponds are where they are for a reason. You need to build up on the foundations I layed."
-"These drawings are very nice dad. But building materials will be expensive. Where do I get the brick to form the back side of these bastions you want?"
"The bricks are already here. Look here this abandoned farm has two barns, but they aren't real barns, they are a solid pile of brick. With a fake roof on it."
"We'll start tomorrow after you and the Regiment depart."
