Serpent and Subterfuge
General Summary
Stela upon hearing the creatures outside were merely hungry, convinced the party that a peaceful arrangement may yet be found. Stela and Besella, who understood the Draconic language of the attacker, began to parlay offering to give up what meat the party had. Caldwell meanwhile sifted through his pack searching for every bit of jerky available to offer to the assailants. Gourm stayed on high alert, ready to jump into defend if things went south. Eventually, the party was able to convince Sarthak to allow half the party to go into Tafoder to purchase fresh meat while leaving the other half as evidence of their eventual return. Besella and Stela both stayed behind where they spoke with Sarthak, learning that he was a bandit who primarily stole food and supplies from unprotected merchants to survive in the desolate Skourian Badlands, or the Rusted Canyonlands as Sarthak called them. They had become more desperate over the last few weeks as travelers had slowed to a crawl which is why they had attempted to steal from the party in the dead of night.
Meanwhile, Caldwell and Gourm began their travels towards the trading post. Seeing the place in disarray, they continued forward and asked for entry. The guard was reticent at first, but upon noticing vitraxine laden in the shield and armor of the travelers, allowed them in. Another guard was helpful in finding an inn and a butcher, but again only after noticing the vitraxine worn by Caldwell. These sudden changes in mood kept the two on high alert as they went into the Impervious Platter looking for room and board. After noticing a third guard speak with the innkeeper after their meals were placed, the two decided to take their meals and find a hidden hovel to take their rest. Gourm, who had noticed a disheveled and scraped up nephilim dart down an alleyway, chose to follow them in hopes of finding a place to hide. While the scamp escaped them, an abandoned building provided protection for the night. Gourm used the purifying ladle from Oliver to stir the now cold soup and watched as magical sparks rose from the soup as it burned out some toxin from the food, confirming their fears before settling into a restless night.
