Lake Savengard

Although technically a lake, Savengard acts much more like a sea. Most people of learning believe that there there is a vast underground spring from which the lake is fed, while others claim that it was a gift from the gods, to defend the The Eastern Calradian empire from the barbarians that reside in the far east.    The lake was once full of trade, and it's coasts were covered in boomtowns benefitting from the abundant fish and pearls, as well as the trade in silk across the lake. Today though, most of these towns have been abandoned, as the population as fled west. Despite many of the older people know that the eastern "barbarians" are simply nomads, and not inherently warlike, the fear of the risk of a barbarian invasion has scared off most. Especially since the trade has dried up recently, there remains no reason to stay.   The lake is now eerily devoid of ships. Invaders have come from the East before though, and now may be the best time for them to do so, now that the empire is weak and distracted. Until they do this though, the lake will remain a barrier, and a reminder of what peaceful cooperation used to yield in ages gone by.
