Lilac Anguish

The Lilac Anguish is a condition evoked by overdosing on Catalpa, a rare but potent, and thus sought-after, drug. Catalpa is won by extracting precious amounts of oil from the pollen of the Guileful Heliotrope, which only grows in desert oases on The continent of Ra'dishra. The oil is then distilled and the resulting distillate is one of the most potent drugs in all of the Realms. What makes this drug so rare, precious and expensive, is that the guileful Heliotrope is only found in a few locations and it defies all attempts to be cultivated. The amount of oil won by the pollen is minuscule which thus explains the rarity of Catalpa. A single drop from the tip of a needle, dropped into your eye, will result in an euphoric rush, which usually lasts for a few hours, where the imbiber experiences hallucinations of his or her wildest dreams come true.
Overdosing though, which is easily done considering the minuscule amount needed for the drug to have an effect, is as much painful as it is fatal. This condition is called the Lilac Anguish and the similarity in colour name to the drug’s source, the Guileful Heliotrope, may be seen as ironic. When overdosing on Catalpa the victim will swiftly develop a high fever and become incapacitated a short time after. Then the veins of his or her body will start to stand out purplish and swollen under the skin; this prominent symptom is what gives this condition its name. The breaths will become ragged and laboured while the whole body cramps up and the victim will find it hard to swallow and can barely breathe. Powerful convulsions will afflict the body and the limbs will seize up and cramp while the eyes will bulge out in pain. All of this are symptoms of the body reacting to the powerful drug as it subsequently shuts down in painful convulsions.
