Giraë

The Allmother

Of all the Deities Giraë might conceptually seem the most elusive but surely can be seen as one of the most powerful of all. For they created Calethos and it is said that Giraë is the prime Deity, as much the Creator as they are the Unraveler. They can bring matter into being, taking strands of existence from the Weave, and it is said that they even govern life. Giraë is above the petty squabbles that most of the other Gods and Goddesses participate in, having no need to vie for power and most Deities respect or even fear Giraë as it is said that they have the power to unmake the Gods themselves. They are one of the most powerful forces in the cosmos. Unerring. Abstract. Giraë seeks to maintain the cosmic balance. As there are always forces that try to destroy and unravel, Giraë can be found on the side of the light more so than the side of the dark. The Allmother sometimes bestows mighty boons upon mortals if they see them destined to preserve the balance. It is not unheard of that they might return a fallen hero back to life and impose an enormous responsibility on them in the form of an arduous or trying quest.

The Myth of Creation from the Elphenos Aestrénis

Ingan thin mellos
In times before time
okh nurah bèr hithen,
the Void was endless,
till rem seth enish
oblivion made manifest
su ridhan bèr iande.
in absence of life and light.

Volem sar rendo
Then the Great Weaver
ku’iande ruè um hathahin
illuminated the Darkness
ner meren iande em histe
and where the Light fell
ma sikho lo hithen.
there was also Shadow.

Ner hithen rhudes
And the Shadows stirred
ner em hosheron,
and were animated,
bara iro iande.
craving the Light.

Hin erenos rhuv’annen.
Such is the Balance.

Ner iande i’ovet
And the Light was strong
ner orhen te’hithen
and resisted the Shadow
ner rudh volenthem
and took flight
ner fidhem esthrenu.
and made the heavens.

Hithen dis enteren
But Shadow was cunning
ner iande shun oghmen te esthrenis
and lured Light from the heavenly vault
ner iande horemen
and tempted Light
nithya er vindèlme.
with tales and promises.

Hiné hithen iande recodem
Thus Shadow captured Light
ner okhlem nia mengelat
and feasted on her essence
ner iande loros ner rhavas.
and Light weakened and dimmed.

Dilvimé senestos
The Evening Star though
tar hithen kruwhin
saw through Shadow’s deception
ner iande bregenat:
and called to the Light:

“Bither’en rud!
“Do not give in!
Avesten m’kealyn
Listen to my voice
ner m’chidra!
and follow me.
Anserem vil ra hathahin!”
I will guide you out of darkness!”

Ner malva hithen
And stinging Shadow
sal ar’jekh iande istri
with piercing white light
dilvimé libis iande cru’hithen
the Evening Star freed Light from Shadow
ner sovennos t’hithen nokalith.
and they fled Shadow’s clutches.

Hiné iande rhaste do hathahin
Thus Light emerged from darkness
ner alimith en lelredir
and regained her power
ner onasat dil’thenos
and illuminated the day
t’hanim obareth.
with renewed vigour.

Hin erenos rhuv’annen.
Such is the Balance.

Iande kanseth hithen,
Light follows Dark,
dil’thenos n’barenish.
the Day the night.
Mardan kanseth endromé.
Death follows life.

Hin erenos rhuv’annen.
Such is the Balance.

Alve’am rhuv’annen.
I am this Balance.
