The Kybia Forest
The forest Kybia lies in the northeast area of Calandyrion. It ranges from the shores of the Otilllian Bay at Pangation east to Novia Veranis where it joins the Great Western Ocean and encompasses the entirety of the peninsula in that area.
It is said that those that enter the forest of Kybia lose their minds and are never the same. These stories bely the fact that the Elves have called it home for millennium.
As recently as three months ago a demon is reported to have come from the Kybian Forest and attacked the port at Pangation. The creature was as big as a house. Went on a mindless rampage and was sent back to the Abyss by Bemed Woldgrip a Dwarven Cleric of Sharmal Ironfist God of War and Peace.
It is rumored that the Wizard Hagnon was raised by sylvan folk in the lands of Fey that are supposed to exist somewhere within the Kybian Forest. Hagnon has not confirmed this to any of his friends. But no one really knows much about Hagnon’s background.
Geography
Much of the Kybia Forest northern coastline is the Otillian Bay while the eastern coastline sits on the Great Western Ocean. The geography within the Kybian Forest contains some hilly country and a gorge that separates the rivers that flow within its borders. The Kybian is both lush and sylvan in nature.
Fauna & Flora
The Kybian Forest has many species of Sequoia like trees which grow to heights of 300 feet. Other trees look like Banyans and grow by taking root within nooks and crannies of other tress like the Silk Cotton tree. Additionally, many vines and low-lying shrubs crop up in areas where sunlight makes it through the canopy level of the forest. Finally, many forms of both edible and toxic fungi all exist there.
Wildlife takes many forms starting with insects like Butterflies, Dragonflies, Moths and Spiders. Avian forms take on characteristics of Eagles, Hawks, Parrots and Songbirds. Many mammals live within the forest such as; Bats, Kangaroo Rats, Jaguars, and Monkeys. Finally, there are few venomous snakes. Many forms of green snakes and constrictors. Finally, while the rivers and small lakes of the Kybian Forest produce freshwater fish which are not shared with outsiders. However, the Elves do harvest fish of the open waters with their fleet of fishing boats located at the town of Novia Veranis.
Natural Resources
The Kybian Forest produces many species of fruits, nuts and fibers that the Elves trade with the other races while maintaining a self-sustaining economy. Additionally, the Elves harvest certain rare lumbers where the forest may need to be thinned in order to increase growth of lower level plants.
